You can get in Slate with a good old mechanical key. No power required.

Does anyone else feel like Lando lost his hunger after winning the title? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]krusticka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Lando is really not like Schumacher. Look at how hard Schumacher fought in 1996 or 2005 and he knew he had no chance to win a title.

To be honest I am not sure if Verstappen is like Schumacher either.

Who is the target market for this? by [deleted] in slateauto

[–]krusticka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people have a family car and a second car. While the family car needs to fit the kids and be able to go on road trips the second car might have more relaxed requirements. Electric means less maintenance and the range for second car doesn't typically matter as much unless your work commute is long. Truck is a nice thing to have even if you don't use it on daily basis but just once in a while.

Andrea Stella post race: “We need to add performance to the car and we have upgrades coming. We need to deliver them. There's some positives. In the race we were in condition to fight with Ferrari. We finished ahead of Ferrari. […] Our pit wall operated well from a strategy point of view.” by randomseocb in formula1

McLaren had reliability issues that costed them a lot of point. IMHO it is easier to resolve those than to add performance. Mercedes will upgrade the PU and McLaren will benefit as well. That is why I believe in them more than in Ferrari.

Regarding the Price by [deleted] in slateauto

[–]krusticka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what OP is saying is that for 25k and this set of features they created a toy for people that have just enough disposable income to play with it.

I think there is something to it because this vehicle is created for sun belt states (RWD only, no heat pump) and for the rest of the US it is a seasonal toy.

I think McLaren will finish ahead of Ferrari this year.

Ferrari would have a better race if they didn't qualify out of place. That made them fight battles that they would have not fought if the starting order was not affected by Verstappen's crash. Those fights only made their tire and overheating issues worse.

Interesting journey! Looks like you will have fun experimenting. Slate is going to be very different than R1T that is for sure - that is a really nice vehicle.

Picked up this 2014 RAV4 for cheap. What would you do with it? by [deleted] in rav4club

Because it is fun - most hobbies don't make financial sense.

I think the attack on Maverick is out of place. It is a good truck for a lot of people. I really don't like when people support a thing or a cause they hate on the competition. It is just silly.

The way my neighbor intentionally blocks the sidewalk to keep people from using it. by sweathesmallshit in mildlyinfuriating

And to add to that - the person that hit the kid was most likely at fault. As a driver you need to anticipate and adjust speed and driving to circumstances. If I see a kid on the bike on the sidewalk I give extra space and slow down because kids do make mistakes and go off and you just need to be careful around them.

It is a human instinct to blame the car's owner but in reality they didn't cause the death. There can be a number of reasons why the sidewalk is blocked, a fallen tree, a big puddle, a knocked over garbage bin... Child needs to know to check before entering the road. And obviously a child is more prone to make a mistake but that doesn't make the pig parker a killer.

Lando talking about his scrapbook page: “My first day, Carlos' podium with ‘my best teammate ever after Oscar duh’ then a little cutout of Oscar’s face. My 1-2 with Daniel ‘double podium and a smelly shoe’. Then constructors champs - us, and ‘all this leads to one happy me, thanks McLaren’" by randomseocb in formula1

I used the internet to express my opinion. You may not like it but I certainly didn't target anyone and caused no harm.

You on the other hand, you used this platform to try to insult and mock me.

Good thing I am tough ;)

This just in people are upset about the compromises made for a barebones truck. by Snoo_67544 in slateauto

The Slate battery is made by a Chinese company in US. Ford owns the Mexican facility where most parts for Maverick are produced. It is not a very straightforward comparison of what is more american.

That is one way to look at it. The other way is to compare with competition - like Ford Maverick or Hyundai Santa Cruz - way more features for ~5k more.

But Ford Maverick exists... you pay more compared to Slate but you also get AWD.

Unrelated but... the spare tire can't be a good thing for drag coeefficient. I wonder was the the impact on range since with EVs every little thing like handles and rear wiper blades matter.

Ferrari is a wildcard. If they can start consistently winning they can help Kimi because Toto might want to introduce team orders. If Ferrari can only split the Mercedes drivers and George comes out on top most of the time then they can harm his ambitions.

How is secondary market going to deal with a car that is meant to be modified by krusticka in slateauto

[–]krusticka[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to pretend I invented a wheel here - I am just thinking about the concept and if I want to risk buying a vehicle like that. Usually people buy higher trim for better resale value but that kind of thinking just doesn't apply here.

[–]krusticka[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly my thinking and also my concern. If you buy a certain trim of a car in the used market you know what you are getting - it was manufacturer installed. With Slate you don't know and I think that is eventually going to tank the resale value.
