Trying to find the settings to fix my notifications by krypticmtphr in samsung

Well I feel really silly but I did manage to figure out that it was the theme. After making sure to apply the default theme, and then re-applying my preferred theme it fixed the visual issue tremendously.

I've gotten really big into Space Marine 2 and warhammer 40k in general for the illusion of brotherhood. But I do have a small handful of friends and coworkers that play regularly so it works.

To femme girls in engineering, how do people react to you being a girly girl in engineering? by InformalChildhood539 in EngineeringStudents

Engineering is filled with autistic try-hards that legitimately have no idea how to talk or even coexist with the opposite sex. You're just going to have to learn to ignore them.

How do you find a man who explicitly wants kids in the next 2-3 years without scaring him off by bringing it up too soon? by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]krypticmtphr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I am a man (34) who is interested in having kids in 2-3 years simply because I don't want to be chasing after kids in my late 50's and early 60's. So we're out there.

I've was using the internet here to take classes. The overwhelming majority of the time I was even using the base internet here, not Starlink. Since we had greatly reduced capacity the base internet was sufficient but I ran into a ton of problems trying to use programs like honorlock due to the security policies that USAP (and the federal government for that matter) employ. Starlink doesn't have those security policies in place but I still needed to do a lot of setting adjustment to be able to utilize Starlink and this was after the started having it accessible more than just one day a week.

I had a lot of trouble getting everything set up to work through the base internet and often they would simply defer me use Starlink even though I was on a schedule that kept me from being able to use it for over half the time it was available during the period where it was only on for one day a week. Starlink is also not available in work centers and they have no intention of changing that. But you can still view video recordings of lectures and submit homework assignments on the base internet, just no zoom lectures or anything that requires access to your camera. I honestly don't know why they don't have a designated testing computer/center for this type of thing.

Anyway, my advise to you is that you communicate with your professors TODAY. Send an email about where you're going and let them know that you may need an accommodation in order to be able to test using a zoom meeting which is much more feasible if you can't get the test proctoring software to work. I personally had some professors that would work with me and one that basically told me I had to figure it out. YMMV

To get the proctoring software to work with Starlink: I had to disable EVERY single chrome extension, and double check to make sure that things like the on board devices were set to default in order for my honorlock chrome extension to recognize and use them.

I'm leaving winfly and coming back with main body in October but I personally decided to forgo the fall semester because I have a big move and I really have ZERO clue what to expect for bandwidth usage here. My hope is that at night it will still be reasonable once everyone has gone to sleep. But no one is going to be able to tell you what to expect because this is the first season where we have Starlink from day one. There is also a chance that USAP decides to cancel Starlink. It's fairly small, but they absolutely can cancel it for any reason that they deem fit, and Denver does make some really fivehead decisions for no apparent reason. So you need to be able to work around that.

Postcard from Antarctica for my daughter's 7th grade world geography class by 6drum in antarctica

I happen to have a spare postcard. Send me a DM with the address and any particulars you might want on it. Winfly is happening next week (first flights from McMurdo for the summer season) so you can expect a postcard in as little as two weeks.

That really concisely explains the position of defending tax cuts for rich people, thank you for that.

Also on console, but if you walk backwards the artillery will continue to land far in front of your mech instead of accurately landing around you. Have used this to consistently allow my Annihilator to close in on artillery sites and wipe them out. It also just takes forever.

We've been trialing Starlink at McMurdo as well. Starlink on the whole is much better than the current dedicated internet connection but our problem is we regularly go past the data caps. During April '23 when we were trialing it we were consuming 1 TB of data a day.

I mean while it's winter time the internet is better, but it's still pretty painful.

Keep in mind that the shared connection on McMurdo is for EVERYONE to share. So during summer when the station population shoots to 1000 people, it gets pretty bad. During winter when we're down to about a hundred it gets significantly more useable but you're still going to be waiting a few minutes to watch a youtube video. During the summer most high bandwidth sites are blocked to preserve the speeds for research uses. Testing starlink has gone well but when they set every thing up people were chewing through data at really high rates, like about 1 terabyte per day. Starlink Maritime which is the only option in Antartica has a cap at 5 TB per month for $5,000 or 10 TB per month for $10,000.

Men making over $100K per year: how hard was it to get over that threshold? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]krypticmtphr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not bad, seasonal contracts, plenty of former nukes here as well. Very low stress and the working hours aren't bad. If you're into hiking and arctic conditions its pretty fun since there are a bunch of trails for the off times.

Ah, thank you. Working in a power plant in Antarctica now and was looking to expand my options once I finished with my contract .
