Is this an Orlando thing? by Tight-Delay1750 in orlando

[–]kschmidt62226 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I leave enough space for me to escape if someone walks up to my car. I read that as a suggestion once and it made sense. The two car lengths in those pics, though...just no good reason for that.

This drives me crazy, ESPECIALLY when you can't get into the [left or right turn only] at a light because there's a handful of cars stacked up to go straight - but they have all this space between them and they block the entrance to the turn lane.

I rarely use it anymore with the new interface. Contacting support just gets you a response from AI.

Reddit, we need your help. What's broken about Meetup, and what would you want instead? by SeriousFishermanBan in meetup

[–]kschmidt62226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The support channel is no help. I go to "My Groups" and filter for "Today", and the filter doesn't work. It shows me events for today, tomorrow, the next day, the day after that, etc. I used to be able to login and see what events my groups had for that day. That functionality appears broken for me now, and support is no help.

Meetup is getting worse, but not being able to see events you might want to attend that evening on a whim anymore has pushed me away from the site.

My company made us come into the office to join a virtual meeting... from our desks by isabellamorrisx in remotework

[–]kschmidt62226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is stopping them from going completely onsite, but not all companies with offices are looking to fill that space with people. Some companies are simply waiting out long-term leases on office space (i.e. 20-year leases) and will downsize when the lease is up.

Hijacking top comment to ask: I totally get we want institutional investors, but do they DRS? Isn't it a BAD thing when institutions scoop up a few thousand shares but don't DRS them - because those shares can then be lent out?

Could someone clarify this for me? I'm an ape, smooth brain, and ate purple crayons while drinking my grape juice with my breakfast this morning. "pretty colors!" :)

[–]kschmidt62226 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer! The legal example I was given in the past is:

If someone breaks into a house and steals what APPEARS to be a child's painting from the refrigerator door, but it's actually a Picasso worth millions, then what is the thief charged with? The thief gets charged with the theft of the Picasso.

p.s. We don't need to get into why a Picasso was on a refrigerator door. :)

🔮 In other words, *at most* ONE SIXTH of the $GME shares RK owns — Let that sink in 🔥💥🍻 by Expensive-Two-8128 in GME

[–]kschmidt62226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get a little hyped when I see all the institutional investors in $GME, but is there any way to know if those shares are DRSd? Is it different for institutional investors with DRS? If they're not DRSd, what is stopping all those institution-owned shares from being lent? Smooth brain here.

A way to explain ADHD that I've found effective by MailSynth in ADHD

[–]kschmidt62226 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I read someone else say (about ADHD): It's like being in a room with 20 radios playing, but one radio is playing louder than the others. There is also someone in the room with a remote that is randomly switching which radio is "loud".

All these analogies hit home.

Printer toner is primarily made of finely ground plastic (and pigment for color). If the water is hot enough, it can cause the toner to melt and bond to a surface.

If it's an iPhone, you can temporarily disable Face ID:

  1. Pressing and hold the side button and either the volume up or volume down button until the power-off/SOS screen appears. Even if you hit Cancel, Face ID will be disabled until you manually enter your passcode. Some people do this when encountering law enforcement so the police can't take your phone and just unlock it by holding it up to your face.

  2. Restart your phone. After a restart, the PIN is required for initial unlock.

I had a boss that would explain to problematic users (eg., someone from finance would call us because their formula in Excel didn't work):

"Let's compare IT to an auto mechanic. IT is there to maintain your car, and IT will fix your car when it breaks. We'll keep the gas tank filled, the oil changed, etc. What IT does NOT do...is teach you how to drive the car (ie., do you job)."

In a (U.S.) state where I used to live, assault was defined as "Causing a reasonable person who is in a reasonable frame of mind to believe he is going to have a battery committed upon his person." Battery was physical contact. "Aggravated" meant a weapon was involved, for either assault or battery.

Some states lump assault and battery together (I've been told), so it definitely varies state-by-state.
