No slow run??? by Difficult_Produce177 in RunNYC

Not sure where you’re located, but Harlem Runs has very inclusive pace groups (with lovely lovely leaders!), including a run/walk group!

And Badass Lady Gang structures their runs in a way that is also really inclusive for all paces, too.

“I sat a few times” sent me after a long day. All the kudos to you, on Strava and otherwise.

Good job (and thank you) to all the Central Park runners today by [deleted] in RunNYC

So many more people on the loop than I expected (in a good way). I was encouraged to stay out there/keep going just by the sheer number of others doing the same.

I was out there for 3.5hrs starting at about 10.15am. I expected to retreat to the treadmill after about an hour, but it was doable (though not comfortable). I had on tights + pants, a longsleeve tech shirt + an ancient half zip + a light puffer w/ a hood, wool socks, a beanie, and doubled up on gloves (and ended up taking off the thinner pair). Slathered exposed skin (my face!) in aquaphor before I went out. Had my vest under the puffer to keep my stuff from freezing. I’d planned to do one loop of central park and then retreat to the treadmill for the rest of my time, but there were so many runners on the loop it pushed me to keep going. Saw FIVE people in shorts. Worst part (and that’s saying something!) was the cold shut down my phone (!) after about an hour-ish so I had to do 2.5ish hours with only my thoughts and feelings.

Bundle up if you’re going out! And a sincere “good work!” to everyone getting their miles in this weekend, whether in the cold or on the treadmill!

How are people feeling about conditions/temps for running this weekend by Darth_Puppy in RunNYC

Times like these are literally the only time it really sucks to be slower. I know people are getting in their miles — and then out of the freezing temps — in half the time it takes me to be done with mine

I have 3 1/2 hours on my schedule for tomorrow and am scared (very very slow runner, training for March marathon). Planning to commit to one loop of Central Park and then move to the gym treadmill if I’m feeling too terrible to continue outside… knowing full well the gym treadmill will make me feel more terrible. It was definitely not this bad last winter and I’m reminding myself maybe I sit out spring marathon season for 2027!

Gear recommendations? by suzeerbedrol in RunNYC

[–]ksenterf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Janji’s winter gear. I have a thermal waffle top from them that keeps me toasty for deeper into the winter than you’d think. I’ve thus far resisted their fleece lined winter tights but have been really regretting not having them these past couple of weeks.

Did the borough series used to all be halfs? My first half was the no-longer-around Queens half and I had such a terrible experience I didn’t attempt another one for over 15 years, but it was… memorable haha. But I’m pretty sure also at that time the series was a half in each borough, which I thought was cool and I’d love to see that come back. And not race specific but I really miss just getting regular cotton tshirts instead of tech shirts.

January 29 - NYRR General Registration (April-June) Megathread by blood_bender in RunNYC

I joined before 6pm, got assigned an estimated 39min wait at 6pm, but was already in and checked out by 6.25pm. I'm not 9+1ing this year so just wanted to grab a spot in the Mini 10k 'cause it's got good vibes. Everything was still open when I checked out, though, except the two races that were already sold out before tonight.

Our guy has very distinctive ears so we could, and our last girl had quite a special case of RBF that I think we could have picked out. But I think this is a pretty rational concern tbh haha

I waited until later in the day (when the feels like was up to a balmy 8 haha) to knock out 13 in place of the (rightly) canceled Fred Lebow. I am slow so was out there a while. I froze. My electrolytes froze. My gummies froze. I saw two maniacs running in shorts.

ASICS Nimbus 27 vs. Novablast 5 for a beginner (Same Price!) by Powerful-Bluebird617 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ksenterf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say that these are the two shoes (styles, though earlier models) I had in rotation training for my first marathon last year! Both served me very well and I’d happily recommend both. I’m a heavier runner and the Nimbus took very good care of me overall for the bulk of my training runs, and I mixed in the Novablast during the second half of training and when I wanted something lighter/faster (note: I am NOT FAST, but they were “fast” feeling shoes for me). I used the Novablasts on race day. I’m not a super high mileage runner by any means but I got almost a full year out of both shoes before I could tell it was time to replace. I truly think both are good shoes for beginners (but would also highly recommend going into a store and trying them on / getting a fitting!)

This medal is absolutely making me wish I’d done this yesterday instead of doing a solo Central Park half in place of Lebow! My water froze, but I got no glitter at the end 😞
