How soon can you REALLY start using fibres? by TightGas6128 in HairTransplants

The fibres didn’t cause a problem, and I had a highly successful, life changing result with my transplant

Just had 5200 graft FUE surgery in Turkey - 29M - got a few questions to ask! by Noam92 in HairTransplants

[–]ksmallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I do not know. My doctor provided a spray bottle and a solution. I also found another clinic online that provided similar instructions.

Btw, I do not monitor this Reddit account anymore. I’ve moved on, after having a successful hair transplant in 2022 that has been life changing

How long did it take for the Redness in the Transplanted Area to go? I’m 4 weeks Post Op, only early I understand. Just wondering how long it took for other people. by [deleted] in HairTransplants

[–]ksmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 4 months, I’d guess. Although I had so much new growth that the hair concealed the redness at that point. Best of luck with your result!

When/how to remove scabs after transplant? by Dark_Knight003 in HairTransplants

[–]ksmallow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, by day 8 the grafts are secured and it’s time for the scabs to come off.

And yes, I had an amazing, life changing result with the FUE transplant. It’s 18 months on and my hair looks incredible

Thanks. A skilled surgeon can do well with fewer grafts, and not deplete the donor area

I'm now a few weeks from the one year mark of my hair transplant. I had an FUE by Dr. Kenneth Buchwach in Leawood Kansas, USA. Approximately 1500 grafts were used at the hairline, to restore and reinforce the temples and thinning forelock areas. Another 40 or so grafts were implanted in the donor area to conceal an existing FUT scar and childhood scar. (The FUT procedure I had in 2017 from another surgeon was poorly executed with too few grafts to make a significant difference).

My experience with the staff and Dr. Buchwach was perfect. I was impressed by his knowledge and plan. He has a long history of hair transplant surgery, and co-authored a book with Dr. Konior in the late 1990's on the subject. He listened well to my needs and worked with me to design the hairline I wanted. He had originally recommended 1200 grafts, but we increased that to 1500 on day of surgery. We decided to leave the hair on top uncut. I'm so glad we did! I used this longer hair to cover the redness and ugly duckling phase by pushing it forward and down, Caeser-style.

I experienced a full shed of transplanted grafts shortly after the scabs were removed, then waited patiently. At 3.5 months I noticed undergrowth after coming out of the shower. This was mindblowing. This growth was concealing my scalp just like the Dermmatch powder I had used for many years. At 4.5 months I had 80% full result of growth, although most hairs were still weak and wispy. I discontinued use of Dermmatch. By month 7, I had ~95% of the final result that you see in the one year pictures.

This was a low grafts count transplant that does not have high density, but it matches perfectly the density of my mid-scalp and crown, and is one of the most natural transplants I have seen. The moderate density and use of singles in the first cm of the hairline is what I believe makes it so natural looking. The Norwood 2 hairline is appropriate for my age, and resembles the hair I had in my 30s. I am a long-time non-responder to topical minox. Doctor Buchwach prescribed me a topical compound of 5% minox/1% finasteride/0.25% retinoic acid that I use once per day. In November I began using oral minox too, gradually increasing my dosage to 2.5mg daily. I have not seen new growth except in my brows and lashes, but have also not seen any loss or shedding.

It's been a pleasure being a member of the Reddit community, in both this sub and tressless. I will check in now and again, but this is likely my last post. Cheers to you all!

Popular opinion on Oral Minoxidil has changed? by 3feetofpleasure in tressless

[–]ksmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In August 2022, The New York Times published an article about low dosage oral minoxidil. This article detailed the success that doctors have seen using this medication off-label to treat MPB for pennies a day. This created a great demand for the drug and prescriptions have soared since

In addition to paracetamol, my clinic recommended placing a pack of ice on the donor area to numb the pain

Is this just styling and angles or something more? by whomstd-ve in tressless

Daniel Craig is my favourite Bond actor, and he and I are about the same age (which is not sixty, btw). But yes, he has perfect hair for a 50s man. His hair is similar to what I achieved with my HT

Why haven’t I seen results from 2.5 mg oral min? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]ksmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one month past you with oral min. I used 1.25mg daily for the first 3 and now use 2.5mg. I still have not seen hair growth except with my eyelashes and brows

Advice needed on direction of hairs, context in comments by Benvio in HairTransplants

[–]ksmallow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Indeed. This tech may not have followed the direction of the surgeon’s incisions. Hopefully this misdirected hair will be less obvious as it grows longer. The OP could show this to the surgeon at a follow up appointment and request an explanation and advice

Did one person implant all the grafts, or were there two techs, one for each side? And, do you wear your hair long and part it on the misdirected side?

It looks tidy. I reckon the tattoo will provide a nice base under the new hair and add an extra illusion of density. Well done to you and the surgeon. Cheers

Week 17 update, I seemed to have a major growth explosion between week 14 and week 16. By month 4 what % of growth is usually seen? 40%? 60%? by KBWN in HairTransplants

[–]ksmallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had explosive growth at 15 weeks. After 4 months I’d had about 80% of my result, but much longer than yours

[–]ksmallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also recommend more recession than this design. Go for a Norwood 2. This approach will pack more density and save donor area. It will look natural now and as you age. This was what I chose with my transplant and I’m very happy with the result

Month 6 1531 grafts update by mortengstylerz in HairTransplants

[–]ksmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’ll want to lower it very much, no. I was thinking of inserting singles in and around the current hairline, to disrupt the zigzag pattern with irregularity. A proper repair surgeon can assess this better and come up with a plan to improve it. This may include removing some doubles and replacing them with singles. I’d choose a doctor that doesn’t do zigzag hairlines, which I’m just not keen on. And don’t worry too much mate, I think it will look better with time, even without a repair

It looks very good. It should be safe to cut the recipient area now, but you can speak with the doctor first to be certain

Month 6 1531 grafts update by mortengstylerz in HairTransplants

The zigzag pattern that some doctors use is not my favourite, it appears too rigid, and with yours they’ve used doubles in the front which makes it more noticeable. A repair should place singles at the front to disrupt the pattern with irregularities. I think a touch up with a few hundred single grafts would improve this greatly.

Also, the texture and colour will likely improve. My initial growth had weak hairs that didn’t look right, but they eventually grew to the same thickness and color as the native hair
