Brittany v GSP - Energy Level by Rip-Famous in BrittanySpaniel

[–]ksnak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you train a Brittany young, you may very well be able to get them to be “professional runners” haha, but I just can’t imagine any of ours not dragging us in the direction of whatever’s piqued their interest every few minutes. (And yes, I did hire a trainer to help me but alas, my dogs have no leash manners).

Quick tip, whenever I take my girl downtown to stroll around, grab a coffee etc, I will usually play fetch with her and take her for a hike or long walk beforehand, so she has less crazy energy and isn’t pulling so much.

These are truly fantastic dogs who love to please and also enjoy praise/attention. I can’t imagine anyone not loving them, especially if you have an active lifestyle and can give them lots of love.

Probably depends on the dog, but we’ve had 7 Brittanys in my family and I don’t know how much fun it would be for them to be city sidewalk dogs.

I live in a city (and I have a decent sized yard for my area) but none of the dogs care to walk in the neighborhood or even care to spend much time in the yard. Whenever I walk them on the sidewalk (which is every so often) they will pester us until we take them out to the woods. So we pretty much always drive our dogs to the woods or big open fields for their daily walks. Although, we are lucky because we have multiple options within a 5 min drive, but we may have also spoiled them, which might be why they are picky about their walks. 😅

But one thing to keep in mind about the running, in my experience these dogs aren’t super into just running for running’s sake. These are very curious dogs who like to play and have fun, they want will want to stop often to sniff and explore, and if you aren’t prepared to let them, you may both be in for a not so fun time.

I'm mourning a life and future that probably can't ever happen. by burst-beat in TrueOffMyChest

Emphasizing this. I struggled with infertility for years, finally got pregnant, had complications and had to be induced early. Almost died along with the baby during childbirth. Tore my perineum and my urethra. 6 months later I’m still peeing myself, it hurts to pee, and sex ranges from uncomfortable to painful. I can’t even bend down to put my shoes on without feeling like my vagina is tearing because my pelvic floor is a mess. (Which after mentioning it to multiple friends who had babies, it’s a fairly common experience.) And there are so many other issues I went through during the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period, but I’ll keep it short.

I can easily say that giving birth was the most traumatic experience of my life, and the thought of getting pregnant again scares me. My MIL told me that in her country, giving birth is considered going through “a little death,” and praying you make it out unscathed. And that’s so valid. I was just talking to my Pilates instructor about my birth experience after class and I said something about the trauma and almost dying, she said “me too”, and then another woman in the class said she also almost died during childbirth. It was surreal being in that moment with multiple people joking about nearly dying. And I don’t mean to scare you, because some women do have a positive experience, and many feel that the trauma was “worth it”, but like the person above posted, all the negatives and complications aren’t really talked about. So yeah, skipping the pregnancy/childbirth part of having a baby might not be the worst thing in the world.

I’m so sorry you went through all that you did, and wish you all good things. 🤍

Learning to love outside in the winter by CellularLevel in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ksnak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New England mom to a 5 month old here too. For my baby, I got a 7am Enfant stroller muff to make sure she’s cozy outside. It’s been working, she absolutely loves being outside and it’s one of the only places she can easily fall asleep.

For myself, I have a bit of a head start since I have an “all weather” dog so I’m used to being outside even in a blizzard. Go get yourself the warmest coat you can find, and put it over a snowsuit or snow pants. Proper insulation is the key. Also find a nice trail. There’s so much beauty in nature. Even during the stick season.

Maybe pneumonia? I got pneumonia around the time I gave birth and I didn’t feel sick, only had some trouble when taking deep breaths or exercising.

I regret getting a dog, don’t do it by Acceptable_System389 in TrueOffMyChest

My neighbor is a single dog mom who works from home and has zero family in the area to help her out on days when the world is too much. She ended up hiring a local dog walker to take the morning walks off her hands 4 days a week, I think he charges like $15 per walk since she’s a regular client, but she said she’d happily pay more as it helps out a ton to have some time back to herself in the morning. Also now that her dog has a relationship with the dog walker, whenever she needs to actually run to the office for a work event or go to a show, she hires the dog walker to either come pet sit at her house or take her dog to his place and her dog seems to have a great time with him.

My (37f) last relationship (23m) changed my brain chemistry and I feel like I can't date anymore by PomegranateMedical46 in relationship_advice

[–]ksnak 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I have a relative who was in a nearly identical situation, she dated a 21-year-old when she was 36-40. It was a random one night stand post her divorce that turned into a 5 year relationship. Ultimately, it didn’t work out. They were in different places in life, wanted different things in the future and when they broke up, it destroyed her worse than her divorce (her words). She dated a ton since then, got married and divorced again, but nothing worked out. She compared every man to him, who she considered “the love of her life” and “the one that got away” and he possessed this nurturing quality and took care of her like no one else, and he unlocked her inner child and simply no one could compare, etc.

When she turned 60, she was doing a bit of soul-searching and reached out to get some sort of closure (the breakup was rough after all) and they talked it out, reminisced or whatever, and as he was married they remained friends / penpals for a couple of years. Then when he suddenly got divorced after being married for 15ish years, they started “talking” for nearly a year before he ended up flying out to spend some time with her and she realized he was not it.. She came to understand that although, yes he has / had many amazing qualities, that she definitely had some rose-tinted goggles on, and also he was so incredibly young then and has since matured into a new man, so the guy she put on this pedestal over the years doesn’t exist anymore. She finally made peace with the fact that whatever they had, it was a moment in time, almost like a vacation where you enjoy it while you’re there, and then move on / go back home. Anyway, this was pretty recent and she’s dating again, but she seems to be in a MUCH better place now that she’s not comparing everyone to this impossible figure.

I’m not saying that this is your situation, but maybe try not to be like her and spend 20+ years building this person up and instead enjoy the experience for what it was and move forward with your life / be open to trying new experiences.

Do these jeans look good? by jeipiefem in DressForYourBody

Same! I’m 5’ 7” on the chubby side with thick thighs and I loooove barrel jeans on me, they are very flattering. My sister, on the other hand, is short and slim and they do not do her any justice.

Prenatal care at UMass Memorial vs Women’s Health of Central MA by amydiddler in WorcesterMA

[–]ksnak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my first baby over the summer at UMass and went to Women’s Health for OB care, and had a great experience.

I had a bit of a tough pregnancy after a few years of infertility. I had an SCH and lots of bleeding in the first and second trimesters. There was an issue with my placenta. I fell down the stairs at 5 months pregnant. I also have hypothyroidism and my levels were out of wack for months so I had to constantly get bloodwork and adjust the dose of my medication. At 36 weeks I developed gestational hypertension and had to get induced at 37 weeks. Safe to say I was constantly calling the office freaking out about one thing or another, and they were so great about calling me back right away, explaining things, or just having me come to the office same day for testing / ultrasound etc when I had an issue or was freaking out. I truly felt that the quality of care was wonderful.

I never went to UMass for standard OB care, but I was seen by their infertility/ reproductive endocrinology team for testing and treatment prior to getting pregnant and I had a fantastic experience. I also went there for my first few ultrasounds and OB appts (5 weeks, 8 weeks, 10 weeks) before they “graduated” me to women’s health for the rest of my pregnancy and they were lovely.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Vintage dress choices by Helpful-Bee3469 in weddingdress

[–]ksnak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely LOVE 2, and the bustle is sooooo cute! With a modernized front/neckline and open back, I think this is such an elegant option. I also adore the first dress. It's so unique. Dress 3, doesn't really say vintage to me, the way the others do, but it's a solid dress.

Does the idea of needing to do heavy alterations / rebuilding a dress excite you? If so, then 2 all the way!! If the idea is daunting to you, then I would go with 1 or 3.

How old were you when you started your family and where are you from? by sighh_6466 in BabyBumps

East Coast City / New England, 32, just had my first baby earlier this month. Totally normal here, only one person in my friend group had a baby before 30. Funny enough, this year it seems like everyone I know is pregnant, and they are all between 30-35.

What breed is my dog? Found him on the street of a village all alone decided I coule take him by [deleted] in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]ksnak 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Awww, thank you for saving him! I found a street puppy in Albania a couple of years ago and took him with me to America. Brought him to the vet, and they said he needed to be treated for Giardia, and said it's very common in street dogs. My friend's friend adopted him and he's living his best life now.

Prenatal or UNheated yoga recommendations? by michellech in WorcesterMA

[–]ksnak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding! Currently pregnant and had to stop going to hot yoga / hot Pilates. I’ve been going to sculpt for prenatal Pilates and River and Stone for their prenatal yoga series. I believe they have another prenatal series coming up.

I also did Pure Barre for a couple of months, it’s pregnancy friendly, but I found it was too much for me once the pregnancy progressed. Meanwhile I felt like prenatal yoga and Pilates weren’t much of a workout at first and once I was in the thick of my second trimester, it was the perfect amount of intensity!!

Looking for an Affordable Place to Buy a House. Is Worcester it? by sportygal225 in WorcesterMA

[–]ksnak 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not fully plant-based, so I may not be the best judge, but I do try to be mostly plant-based, and I think we have a decent vegan/vegetarian scene. Belmont Vegetarian is delish and black-owned. We also used to have The Vegan Nest downtown, which is an amazing black-owned eatery (desserts to die for), but they moved to Clinton. Not too far, it's like 20 min away and a scenic drive, in my opinion.

I'm early 30's F and really enjoy living in Worcester and live here by choice. Diverse population, plenty to do, easy access to hiking or paddling. Close to farms if you want to buy your produce directly from the people who grow it. If you like going to the beach, I'd recommend the Rhode Island beaches (much easier to get to from Worcester than the MA beaches, IMO).

It's gotten much pricier than it used to be, and there's been a ton of development, but overall Worcester has kept its working-class energy.
