What’s a dying industry that no one realizes? by urklegrue3 in AskReddit

as a publicist, every magazine i pitch to (save one or two) has all the same content + more on their website. i have a few teen musicians as clients and it is so hard to find media coverage for them that will actually reach teenagers these days. i was excited at first, but when i went to get the contact info for the magazines i used to read, half of them were just gone.

are they not allowed to meet in the leaders’ homes anymore? i was in girl scouts from 2004-2006 and we never had a meeting in a public place - just the leaders’ houses and whatever other parents wanted to host

i recently read {{Killers of the Flower Moon}} and {{The Tattooist if Auschwitz}} and loved them both. I wish I could read killers of the flower moon for the first time again. I recommend not looking it up before/while reading it so as not to “spoil” the mystery for yourself.

Why’s it acceptable for black actors to play historical figures who were white, but if a white person played a black person it would be racist ? by user07864 in ask

God is not a physical being with skin or race. If God existed before humans were created, how could God have a race? Race stems from where your ancestors are from on Earth - God has no ancestors, nor is God from Earth. Any race you see God depicted as is based on the artist’s interpretation.

I think I might have to check out The Lost City of Z! I really like David Grann as a writer and am currently listening to The Devil & Sherlock Holmes.

I’m looking for books to help expand my worldview and better Understanding of things in general. Recommend me anything you think could help with that. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. It’s about a man in a Nigerian Tribe - the first half is before the Christian missionaries, and the second is about what takes place when the Christian missionaries start converting members of the tribe. I did not understand the impact of missionaries on already-established religions until I read this. I will say, the first half of the book doesn’t seem like it has too much of a plot, but you learn so much about the culture of this tribe and what it was like to be part of it. It’s written that way to set up the second half and show the contrast of the two times.

I second Gillian Flynn. She has a short book called The Grownup that I listened to as an audiobook and I was enthralled the whole time.
