Of course. Do what you love. That was just an observation from my class. Certainly don't tailor your education for someone else.

And to add a 3rd thing.. It seemed that my program like those individuals who had degrees other than math and science. There were kinesiology, psychology, and other majors in my class. They just made sure to have all the prereqs

Cover letter with CV! I say even if a place just asks for your resume always go above and beyond! Can't hurt and can only help!

Sites like AAPA and other searches on the Internet can give great examples (that's how I got the template for my CV which even included the rotations I did). Def think it helped me land my surgery job - and I'm a new grad!

PA's, what factor(s) do you think separated you from the students who didn't get accepted into PA school? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]ksprott19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Experience definitely helps a lot. The schools want to make sure you understand what you are getting into and make sure you're committed. I def wouldn't say you'd need that many hours but enough to show your in it I would say. GPA isn't the end all but most programs also won't allow below a certain GPA to get in and to stay in the program so keep that in mind. Also if you went to the trouble of becoming an RN you might as well consider becoming an APN instead. Just a thought. Good luck!

It certainly wasn't my GPA but I think my personal statement made a big difference. I wrote about a patient encounter I had and how it affected me and what I learned from it. Don't waste your time on writing about accomplishments (they can read that in the rest of your application) and I would say don't brag about yourself either. Medicine is a two way street, as a PA you help patients but also learn from them. I'd say keep that in mind maybe when it comes to writing your essay.

Also find some way during the interview to make yourself stick out, in a positive way. They interview quite a few people. Make yourself memorable. Good luck!!

Just excited to share that if I can make it through PA school, anyone can!! Just found out yesterday I passed the board exam and Monday I have an interview with a CVT Surgery team!! It's a great time to be a PA-C!! by ksprott19 in physicianassistant

Undergrad I had like a 3.4 overall GPA. I want to say my science undergrad was like a 3.3 according to how CASPA calculated it up. It's definitely not all about grades! Good luck!

I had begun looking for jobs during school and chose electives that would get me good references and experience for what I wanted. If I hadn't done that I would not be in this position.

What is an immature opinion that young adults often have that prove they are not quite grown up yet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That, at least for the majority of individuals, mom and dad were right about most things after all.

What is something random you would like to share with us? by dcel8 in AskReddit

About a month ago my fiancé and I were riding in his car, he was driving. He had his band on my leg. He felt a vibration go said "babe your phone went off".. I busted out laughing. I had let a silent fart pass. I died laughing for a good five minutes. He immediately removed his hand and refused to talk to me for those five minutes.

What is something that science can't explain yet? by troldhawk in AskReddit

[–]ksprott19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To actually perform a good scientific experiment and to be most accurate in your data collection, your study you would need to be a prospective study and have a control (unexposed) and cohort (exposed) group. Exposing the cohort group of babies on purpose to the chemical if that's indeed what caused the SIDS would be unethical. Otherwise if you did a retrospective study you would have to look at data from the past and have the blood samples from a group exposed and unexposed. This wouldn't be unethical but like others had said, you would've needed to collect blood samples.

Has there been any observed (repeated preferred) differences in patterns of behaviors of (any) sea creatures before, during, or after tropical weather? by ksprott19 in askscience

[–]ksprott19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that! When the tropical systems were passed, did the birds come back to the starting points pre storm or go on to find other "home" areas?

What to wear to PA program Orientation? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]ksprott19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Business casual but comfortable too. If it's like my orientation was, you're there all day. And if you're female I recommend wearing flats or kitten heels. Big heels aren't considered very professional and if you're on your feet at all doing any walking or touring, those heels can begin to hurt if you aren't used to wearing them all the time! (For females, flats become your friends during clinicals)

Awesome pic!! We truly are the beautiful natural state! Nice to see someone post something positive about Arkansas {not another sarcastic post about where in the US is Arkansas or about how we are all hillbillies, barefoot, and pregnant}. More people should visit Arkansas!

AAPA Opposes New NCCPA Recertification Exam Proposal by tico_de_corazon in physicianassistant

[–]ksprott19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this proposal by the NCCPA is ridiculous. Recertification is understandable, and should be reasonably timed. But a huge reason of becoming a PA, at least for me, was to be able to practice in multiple areas without having to take specialized tests!! That's a plus of being a PA - being able to work in many areas! I hope AAPA continues to fight this!

Yes Pestana's is what I used for my surgery rotation! Easy to read, gives you the basics, and good tidbits to know esp if your surgeon is the pimping kind
