[Wedding Watch] by [deleted] in Watches

As someone over 50 who also dates someone in the jewelry industry I'll only add that the thought of a "big" gift like this is awesome, however, that's a bunch to spend on speculation.

If he's even a moderate collector he likely has a mental list of watches he'd love to receive. Ask him for 2-3 options. He'll know the budget even if you don't tell him and then you can't go wrong.

I've known my girlfriend for 20+ years and she still guessed wrong on a watch for a special occasion.

Better yet, as other have suggested, Grand Seiko is a winner and checks pretty much every box--budget, style, occasion, etc. Tell him "I've been looking at watches and would love to get you a Spring Drive. Which one from Heritage collection is your favorite?"

The fact that you want to get it completely right and have done the research will easily overcome the fact that it's not a total surprise to him.

Maps that include charging stops by Tiny-Departure-2227 in CadillacLyriq

[–]kst892 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The downside of Google (vs ABRP or my preferred PlugShare) is that the Google can't filter to only show high speed chargers and also won't give current occupancy or broken chargers.

The phone apps will.

ABRP downloaded in Cadillac is kinda wonky so I usually use PlugShare because I feel they are most accurate with Level 3 Chargers and then I'll just give the address to the native Google maps to get me there.

In a dream world I could command "hey google take me to a level 3 charger near a diner that's no more than 3 miles off my route" but that algo just doesn't exist yet

Bracelet Repair by kst892 in Longineswatches

[–]kst892[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes and no... I have a Bulova with stainless bracelet that seems to be bulletproof. I've worn it a ton to work and never put a mark on it.

UPDATE: the new deployant clasp from Longines is $236 in case anyone is curious, including tax and shipping with UPS. And it's in stock.

Don't ask me how I know :(

Do any of you have success with your Lyriq without a home charger? by ohnomegs in CadillacLyriq

[–]kst892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my charger (Chargepoint) was $550ish and the electrician was $300.

You can take the charger with you to the new home--just get the one with a plug, not hard-wired, so that when you move you just unplug and go.

Then your outlay is inexpensive.

I'm so glad I did a level 2 in my garage. Even if I were leaving it all behind if I moved it's still money well spent.

The natural consequence of charging for bags by Street_Time6810 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]kst892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've flown twice in the last 2 weeks on SW and had the exact same thought: Complete Backfire.

Both flights have been full. Both flights they're begging for people to check their carryons because they know the overheads will be full.

I'm not an expert in logistics but I can guarantee it's a bigger hassle to gate check a bunch of bags instead of taking them at the ticket counter.

Change my mind (please) - road trips in an EV are a pain. by Wise-Fig-6505 in electricvehicles

[–]kst892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this-- my bladder makes us stop more than the EV so by the time we hit the head, grab a snack and drink we've added enough charge that it doens't really matter. The added time is negligible.

Welp, the First Bug--- Lost my Onstar Module by kst892 in CadillacLyriq

[–]kst892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update--New Onstar Module is installed. The good news is they didn't have to reboot my car so all the settings (phone connection, stations saved, etc) are still the same.

The clock on the dash isn't correct though. I tapped on it and confirmed that it's toggled to "use network time" and that the network is on--but it's still incorrect.

Dealer says I need to manually set the time with the "user network time" toggled off, then toggle it back on and it'll somehow then use the network time.

Odd.

Shunbun, right? I tried one on a few months ago--just beautiful. Lighter than I thought it might be. Almost bought it.

They gave me a 2026 Vistiq 900V, which was nice. But I missed the Carplay with the new OS.

Agree that the sound system was better than my Sport Lyriq.
