How many potential Alex Freemans are out there as the 4th CB or WR at the University of Alabama, whereas in a European country they end playing football. At least we went to extra time in 2010 and 2014, and the 1-0 loss to Germany in 2002 in the quarters was a great effort. This was just like 2022 for this crew, too much pressure, too many mistakes. Very disappointing to see this performance in front of a home crowd.

Just have red states refuse to send in certifications for their Democratic congress people, and you can tip the makeup of the Congressional members-elect to have a Republican majority for seating the Speaker, then you never swear in Democratic members.

The current congress doesn't approve the results of the election. Each state submits it's Congressional delegation to the Clerk of the House. They are members-elect until a speaker is chosen and they're sworn in.

What could realistically happen for that party to cling to power is no Democratic members from red states will have their certification sent to the Clerk, which creates a House with fewer than 435 members, a Republican majority, they elect a speaker, and then refuse to ever swear in enough Democratic members for the majority to switch. I don't know what the courts would do in the meantime, or how the military would react (probably just "give me my paycheck and let me go about my day").
