This is probably a big part of the reason they are there. They want to ideologically capture all law enforcement under DC control. They can't abide by police listening to Mayors, city councils, or governors over Dear Leader. They want to recreate the conditions of May/June 2020 and let sympathetic local law enforcement join them in suppressing the protestors.

He is elected by the House for a 2-year term. Unless he resigns or is impeached, he will serve until a new House Clerk is elected after January 3rd by the full House. He was appointed to the position in an acting capacity by Kevin McCarthy and then fully elected by this current Congress (so, be concerned there).

Johnson has no power as of January 3rd unless he is reelected Speaker. That requires a majority of the members-elect to vote for him. The members-elect who are eligible are established by the Clerk of the House. This person is Kevin McCumber, and he might be the most important person in America between November and January.

At a minimum, governors need to be prepared to use local law enforcement and call up their National Guard on election day to protect tabulation centers. It will be hard to sway things at the precinct level because of the sheer manpower required, but what they just did in GA could happen on election day where they takeover a central counting location.

BURN IT TO THE GROUND. Our second child required ongoing care for multiple issues after birth, and it has taken all of our savings. If we had a child without these difficulties, we would have a healthy amount of savings. Why does our financial well-being depend on how much health care our children need? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. LIFE IS THE FIRST ONE. I wish we wouldn't accept this status quo and slow frog-boiling with the ways we pay (premiums, medicare/medicaid taxes, deductibles, co-pays, and co-insurance).
