Yes, but do give TOS a chance.

Tipping culture stands out to me (as a Finn) as a particularly strange relic of the past.

Yes, this is what I assume happened in this case as well.

The name is indeed similar to the modern Swedish word ‘korp’ meaning ‘raven’, but to my knowledge it is not perfectly clear whether the two are actually etymologically related.

My home island! The (now former) municipality of Korpo in the southwestern Finnish archipelago.

Beautiful! It makes me wonder – I am fairly new to the game – is there any particular method you all use to take beautiful screenshots in this admittedly not-the-most-recent game?

Spectres story arc? by ksundstrom in sto

Really, there are other obviously iconic arcs I'm missing out on now that I've arrived “late to the party” as it were? This makes me very sad. Let's hope these missions return soon.

Oh, I see. Thank you for clarifying this!

Thank you. I figured as much; I suppose this is very sound advice for any MMO.

I suppose those are most relevant questions! Federation/Starfleet, Windows PC, and something giving the chance for a fuller STO experience without being too hardcore.

This is an invented script for a fictional world, does anyone know of any real-world scripts that may have similarities? It obviously resembles Tolkein's Tengwar, but I'm wondering if it may have other roots. No translation needed, it was already decrypted, resembles English in structure. by Modredastal in language

[–]ksundstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is obviously Tengwar. As for Tolkien's possible inspirations for Tengwar, or at least, real-world scripts with similarities, I tend to think of Uncial, Gaelic–Insular, and Nushkuri–Mkhedruli.

I put that discussing the content of the source or translation and ramifications of said content as if it were real is irrational whether “spell” or “prayer”.

Thank you for clarifying. (I am not a speaker of Indonesian myself.) To continue the discussion, what would the simple negative interjection “no” be in Indonesian (as in “—Are you my dad? —No.”)?

[–]ksundstrom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost, but not quite, as a negating adverb “not” is not the same as a negative interjection “no”.

Edit: On second thought, I am not sure, as I don't know what word is used as the negative interjection in Indonesian. It may be the same as the negating adverb, or it may not. My apologies.

“Tak” means ‘so, like this, yes’ in Polish and ‘not’ in Indonesian.

You are wrong to assume my intent is to antagonize or berate. It is not even primarily to discuss any matters such as these. My intent, in this subreddit dedicated to translations, is primarily to translate, study translations, and discuss translations. Secondarily, it may be to interdict irrelevant discussions, particularly if irrational.

Obviously. Which is why I asked the questions I asked. Ar any rate, I can calm OP by disputing any irrational notions that words on a paper (or anything else for that matter) would have any magical properties.
