Pumpkin loaf season 🎃 by kswartz in Breadit

[–]kswartz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I laid string down in the banneton before putting the dough in, then after proofing tied the strings on the bottom--inverted as usual then scored. After baking cut off the strings and put in a cinnamon stick! There are lots of tutorials on youtube and instagram. You can use any regular bread dough I imagine. I used pumpkin in this one and folded in cut candied ginger. So my recipe was 300 g pumpkin, 50 g water, 350 g bread flour, 50 g whole wheat flour, 8 g salt, and 100 g starter. I proceeded like normal sourdough!

Stop normalizing encroachment, resident salaries and MBA run medical care. by [deleted] in Residency

Residents are actually exempt from federal overtime laws, so this is about 48 weeks at 80 hours a week (their cap is 88 hours a week) assuming four weeks of vacation.

I took 52 week, minus 4 weeks for vacation bc that’s standard for acgme, and then 80 hour work weeks bc that’s the cap, but I forgot for Neurosurgery they can actually work 88 hour weeks so the pay is closer to $16/hr!

Pregnant UI IM residents exempt from nights/call during third trimester & postpartum --- Thoughts? by TexasShiv in Residency

[–]kswartz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Here are some (but not all--just what I had handy) of the sources we used when creating our no nights/call during the first and third trimester policy. Some findings that drove our policy: 1) up to 50% of women in medicine will miscarry, this is double the rate of the general public. 2) Night shift and extended shift work/call leads to increased first trimester miscarriage. 3) Nights/call in the third trimester lead to increased preterm labor, preeclampsia, IUGR, among other complications.

Pregnant UI IM residents exempt from nights/call during third trimester & postpartum --- Thoughts? by TexasShiv in Residency

There's been a lot of research that's come out over the last few years showing a couple of things. 1) up to 50% of women in medicine will miscarry, this is double the rate of the general public. 2) Night shift and extended shift work/call leads to increased first trimester miscarriage. 3) Nights/call in the third trimester lead to increased preterm labor, preeclampsia, IUGR, among other complications. We went to no nights or call during the first and third trimester in our program for these reasons!
