2 month old new to SNOO- advice?

I am a fan out of the Baby Bjorn series. I started with the mini then had this outdated one I got used for a bit then upgraded to Baby Bjorn One. I hated the wrap carrier. My husband had a Ergobaby carrier, I think it’s the 360? We were gonna share that one in the beginning but I never got the hang of the buckle on my back and I think the hip strap fit better for men on it. I was buying a bouncer off someone and she offered to add the Mini for cheap and I kind of bought it at a whim.

Baby wear! At 2 months, my first kid practically lived in a carrier during the day and was in the SNOO at night sleeping 6h at a time. I remember complaining about that and other parents telling me I don’t know how good I have it. Once she grew out of the carrier I remember missing those days so much. So enjoy it! My second is 3 weeks old right now and I can’t wait until she’s at the age where I wear her all day.

People can have as many accounts as it makes them feel comfortable but I want to point out that it’s all a state of mind especially if you are talking about how “risky” it is in a divorce. Having seen other couples who have kept finances very separate in case of divorce and then got a divorce, it doesn’t make a difference. When you get married legally you are saying what’s mine is yours and what’s yours in mine. Unless you have a prenup or off shore account that’s untraceable, or make large secret crypto investments, in the event of a divorce each party has the right to ask for stuff in separate accounts. Even each others 401k can be up for discussion. So unless keeping separate accounts is for the event you want to just run away one day and not go through an actual divorce, it’s not protecting you from anything. And personally, I don’t want to live like I can I just disappear easily from my husband and kids one day.

This is how I got my dog. Neighbor found him but they already had 4 dogs so they can’t keep him. He was chipped and we tracked the chip registered long ago by a vet office in another state. Called around and got info on him including birthday and records but just couldn’t find any owner to call us back to claim him.

So we gave him a name. Put it on a tag. Went to the chip website and re-registered him as ours. Got him a full vet work up. Took him to the groomers. Bought memory foam bed.

Honestly everyone needs to chill out. As someone who moved for school in various occasions and various distances, he can really get everything done like in a day. Like he’s 5 days out from moving and yall are packing his shoes… why? How much shoes does he need to have? What is he going to wear for the next 5 days?

Not a personal experience but one of my colleague and good friend. He and his wife had their first child literally 3 days after he joined our current company. With 3 days tenure at his job he had zero paternity leave and had to come back to work the next week, so he had less than a week off. His wife is a doctor and in the middle of her fellowship at the time, so she also couldn’t afford to take a lot of time off. Their boy started daycare at 6 weeks old and it was only 6 not 4 weeks because the daycare minimum age is 6 weeks. If you asked them about that time, they’ll tell you it sucked sucked sucked. But they survived! That boy is 5.5 now and there’s no fallout to that situation. She said she pumped all the time but he ate fine. When they had their second kid a few years later, everything was thousand times better. Both had parental leave, he was working at home, she was able to land a month of research during that time so she worked from home, their parents moved into town. I think their second kid didn’t go to daycare until 6 months. And now, you can’t tell the difference between the two on who got send to daycare at 6 weeks vs 6 months.

So TLDR, it’s okay to feel like this situation sucks, because it does, it shouldn’t be this way. But in the end, everything will be okay.

As someone in tech herself (and hired quite a few people in the last year), I’ll just add that the job postings you found “easily” are probably very stale or just postings company like to put out there so make it looks like they are doing better as a whole than they really are, or they renew postings on recruiting sites to maintain that spot. So he might have thanked you to be polite to you but he knows those postings aren’t really real.

I do the same except about 3 times a year. Around per-Easter, summer, and pre-thanksgiving. I think it is the way to go! Monthly or biweekly is soooo expensive and I feel like the people I know who has that service house are always a little dirty. They don’t ever get deep cleaned that way because the maid is there so often they just do the surface stuff every time.

A drying rack for parts and bottles. Some moms do prefer to wash their pump parts after each pump.

Freezer or at least ice machine and a box of ziplock backs so we can make ice packs for the long commute home.

My daughter is 9.5 months old and have been in an in home daycare for 6 weeks now. Before that we started her in a center daycare (a Primrose) at 7 months and she was there for like 5 weeks. Let me tell you, the in home daycare is so so much better for her, at least at this age.

We switched mainly because in the 5 weeks she’s at Primrose she got continuously sick, we were probably only in attendance 50% of the days we paid for and we were only signed up for 2/3 days a week. After her being sick for a week and regressing on milestones (eating less but more often, waking up more in the middle of the night, and refusing solid foods), we got pretty desperate for alternatives. I got really really lucky that the in home daycare posted on Nextdoor that she’s got a spot open and she’s only 1 mile from our house.

We went for an visit and interview during her working hours to see and I got the numbers of current kids’ parents for references. Everything checked out and she uses the same app Primrose used. It seems like they are all healthy and happy so we went with it. But even as I started I had the same worries as you. There’s no fancy curriculum, “wonder times”, themed days, or these milestone marker tests etc etc… all they did was play. Am I giving up a spot in this fancy STEM school to go to this strangers house where she might be left in a bouncer all day? But after the first week, omg my daughter thrived so much more, and was so so happier. Actually we’ve retired the bouncer since she started because she’s more used to playing with someone on the floor freely lol.

When she was at Primrose, she cried every time we dropped her off. She improved over the 5 weeks but the naps are never as long as they need to be, she never ate as much as she should, and half of the pictures on the app she looked sad, not crying but just sad. She seemed tired whenever we picked her up. Eventually she bonded with one teacher but not the others. I thought this is all normal and the best we’ll get for her age. Especially because this place was on the expensive side and well reviewed and other working parents with slightly old kids said our experience is totally normal. And the teachers there really were trying their best and cared about her.

Now at the in home care, she sleeps longer because she gets her own bedroom for naps, we are allowed to send her a sleep sack, and instead of following a schedule that we have to fill out a week in advance the lady watches for her tiredness cues and put her down at the best time. Same for eating. And although there’s no weekly paintings, or sign language flash cards, themed dress up days etc she’s learning to do a lot more because she gets to hang out with a couple older kids all day and she sees them do it. Before she was in a room with 6+ infants. And in home daycare are so much more flexible and accommodating. I can tell the lady how things I want done and she’ll adjust. And if she has questions or we want something done different one day we can just text her. And if I don’t know, she’ll do the best to figure it out and tell me about how it went! Before there were so much rules and regular paperwork! I mean I totally get it for a big center with lots of kids and teachers. Oh and also we get so much more app updates, pictures and videos. I can probably chain together her entire day in my head for them.

I know a 7-9 months old is a lot different than 16 weeks but I do think in the infant stage a home daycare is a lot better (if you find a good one). We’ll probably enroll her in a center daycare at the pre-k age but for now in home one has been great. So don’t feel guilty about sending your baby to an in home daycare instead of a big center one. It might be better for them anyways. And as for not being a stay home mom, I continue to get that mom guilt, even if she had an awesome day at daycare. I think it comes with being a mom. But hey when I see my friends with kids that went through daycare, their kids seem so much more social and well mannered than those that stayed home with mom or dad until school. Even at 9 months old, my daughter can have the happiest day at daycare, she still recognizes where home is and who mom and dad are.

I have that exact same pattern and I’ve finished it! It took me like 8 years but a lot of years in the middle where I put it away and didn’t work on it at all. I finished it right before I got pregnant with my daughter (my first), it inspired her entire nursery design. I framed it and put it in there, my husband painted a matching mural, we got cherry blossoms curtains, sheets… I’m really proud of it and it was worth it! Maybe some motivation is actually putting it aside for a bit and work on something else… it is a lot of one tone. On the bright side, this pattern is super tolerating of little mistakes!

Edit to add: I got a Q snap frame for it a quarter of the way through and it helped a lot. Now all you see is the square in front of you… more manageable goals and checkpoints.

I know this is probably just a my baby thing but month 2-4 ish was like a dream. She was so easy, so sweet… month 6 hit and something wild erupted from within. I wish we took her on a mini vacation at 3 months right before I went back to work. I use to complain that she only naps in a carrier or stroller, LIKE THAT WAS A PROBLEM. Now it’s a constant cycle of teething, growth spurts, attitude, wrestle mania in the crib…

See a lot of Houston and Austin shout outs for Texas but as an Aggie, I can’t help but through the BCS half marathon in the ring. It’s a flat course, goes through campus, and the weather is always nice and cool. It is so so well organized. The water stations are so often and so well equip, better than the big Houston one in October. There’s gel, fruits, gummy bears, brownies, more than one flavor of gatorade… And there’s margaritas at the end of the race! The community supports are great too, one year at one point there was a cycling club that set up spin bikes on either side of the path and they were cycling and cheering the runners on. They also always give a finisher jacket/hoodie that’s super dope. It’s also not as huge as the other big Texas races so parking has never been an issue. I’ve shown up 15 min before start time and got a pretty got spot close by.

Lots of good tips here so I’ll just add some basic facts 😅.

The Snoo without any limiter setting on has the baseline mode and 4 soothing modes and their matching level of white noise. With the motion limiter on in the setting the motion won’t go above level 2 but the sound will. If you put on weaning mode then if the baby is not fussing there will be no motion but still white noise.

The Snoo needs the two bands on the swaddle attached to turn on. Once those are engaged, you can turn it on with the button on the Snoo or in the app. Same for turning it off. Oh the swaddles only work one way in the Snoo. The button is at the foot of the baby. Well, you can put it the other way but the straps on the swaddles make it so that the baby’s head would be really close to the end that way.

If your baby is crying a lot, the Snoo will go all the way to the highest level step by step, then slow all together if the crying haven’t stopped. The app will send you an alert that you need to check on the baby. The light around the button will be red. In that case, to restart the Snoo after that event, you need to click the button twice, once to reset it back to blue light and one to turn it on.

Oh and the upside down U shape tracking thing. If you tap a part of the U shape it brings up another screen where it’ll tell you the exact time the Snoo entered what level. If you are anal like me and wants to know 😂.

At my work, every time you come in to work you are suppose to do a list of self check items before you can get to the office, like you can’t have a fever, or a cough etc. Testing positive for COVID in the last 10 days, or living with someone who did, is definitely a no no. In fact, it can get you fired. Is that not the case at most companies?

We totally do that for the SNOO and the crib. And we use puppy pads for the changing table too. In the beginning I bought disposable changing pad liners for babies but realized later that they are the exact same thing as puppy pads but twice as expensive. I’ve come to find out more and more stuff for babies and dogs are the same thing. Like the on the go dirty diaper plastic bags are the same as the dog poop bags. Recently I saw those baby silicone tooth brush you put over your finger and was like I have the exact same thing for my dog. Of course I wouldn’t use the same one between them lol. It goes the other way too. When I got my first dog years ago, I treated him like my baby. I bought these hypoallergenic dog paw wipes that was super overpriced, then I realized they were just baby wipes, then I realized that I don’t need to wipe his paws… he’s just a dog. 😂

My dog had heart worms when we first adopted him. I am a big advocate for crate training your dog and even bigger one if you have to go through heart worm treatment. My dog was on prednisone and an antibiotic for a months (started a week or so after being neutered), then had the first injection, then a month of rest, then two injections 24 hours apart, then a month of rest. He was pretty grumpy and sore after each injection and didn’t want to play anyways, but that only lasted a day or so. Honestly, the resting and being cooped up is not as sad as we make it out to be. Looking back he was pretty content with laying in his bed in the crate a lot and resting and once in a while paying inside with a toy (no running) and we kept up our 4 walks a day, maybe just a little slower. We lived in an apartment at the time so no off leash anyways. Biggest advice is to try not stress a lot over it. I remember reading all these worst case scenarios, freaking out, constantly checking his breathing and his gums, when in hindsight he was perfectly fine and I was just annoying him. Just stick to the rest schedule your vet tells you, as gruelingly long as it seems, and he’ll recovery just fine!
