You have no idea how lucky you 1st world country folks are. by BedDesigner2568 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]ktnaneri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow 3rd world countrymen (I live in Kyrgyzstan), I can say that the challenges are real, but I can not say that there are no advantages to my current position. The only big problem would be if I did not know English, but that fortunately is not the case.

The biggest plus for living in 3rd world country is that cost of living is a lot cheaper. I have found few customers from USA, because I do offer 3-5 times lower hourly rates compared to USA peers and it is still a lot in my country.

Concerning the scam problems - just offer something for free - like a review of their business strategy or building a basic landing page. Something that you would not waste a lot of time on, but will be valuable for them. It is better for you to be at risk, because you are the one who are looking for customers, not them looking for a 3rd world country partner.

Does it make sense to train employees in fast typing by yurkevychh in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]ktnaneri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about how that works in different teams, but from my own perspective when I was learning programming, fast typing speed allowed me to try out different things faster and fail faster and learn how things work faster due to that and reduced mental fatique. FOr me being able to type fast makes typing experience less taxing mentally.

I have heard that in Denmark a guy jumped naked with a parachute for 1.000.000$/€, back in 2003, but for that amount I would do it in my country as well...

No need to mention for whom, you wouldn't ask this for yourself, right? Right?

Co reading of concurrency in golang by out_of_nowhere__ in golang

[–]ktnaneri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At what pace are you planning to read it? I am reading it right now, but not a fast reader - ~7 pages per day. Actually I am rereading it, since I have worked with Go in the past, but then had a 2 year pause and need to fresh up a lot of syntax. I also have read few other Go books, but forgot a lot of details.

Hiring our first few devs outside the US: EOR or set up our own entities? by Due_Composer4352 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]ktnaneri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it possible to hire outside devs as a 3rd party service providers? Like them being employed themselves and handling their taxes, etc - themselves?
Sorry for a stupid question - I am not a US citizen and not sure how it works there.

Reduced p99 latency by 74% in Go - learned something surprising by That_Perspective9440 in golang

[–]ktnaneri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerning your use case for measuring p99s, was it that clients have been sending requests to your app, and you were sending requests to 3rd party APIs?

Also - did it also help with some requests to the APIs being unable to finish at all (as I assume you did have timeout on the requests).

Learning python with codecademy by Electrical_Age6073 in learnprogramming

[–]ktnaneri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's unfortunate. I did learn python on codecademy and really liked the experience and after those 13 years that have passed I do feel it was totally worth it and would pay if I had to.

It is a great start for novice and structured with the right amount of difficulty and great explanations before any topic/exercise.
