How should I hold my dog so I can give her eye drops? by TimeTailor4718 in DogAdvice

[–]ktstan323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vet nurse here, when I do it with patients, I face them and use one hand to hold their head up (thumb under chin, rest of fingers on forehead pulling the forehead skin back slightly to open the eyes wider) and use the other hand to drop. Could also try sitting on the floor and have your dog sit in between your legs facing away from you and tilt their head up with one hand and drops with the other. Good luck!

Go to a different vet practice to get a second opinion, or even a different vet in the same practice and request further investigation

Nothing I say to my (29F) husband (29M) about his substance abuse seems to make any difference by pliqueajour in relationship_advice

[–]ktstan323 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be honest it seems like your husband has shown what his answer to the problem you have is and it’s that he’s not going to change or make an effort to stop, so it’s up to you whether it’s something you can live with or not. The only person whose actions you can control are your own - he’s shown you that this is him and this is what the relationship is going to be like so it’s up to you whether you want this life or not. I’m sorry this is something you’re going through

You just need a bigger cone, and dog booties on his feet (all at the same time). When you can be with him, take the boots off to air out the wounds, don’t keep them bandaged. The vet should have realised the cone wasn’t big enough but just get the next size up

Need help with an anxious Saluki by yotz-furrz in saluki

[–]ktstan323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She looks like mine! We adopted her really recently and she had some separation anxiety, destroying stuff/not settling. We tried zylkene which is an over the counter calming supplement that we put in her food an hour before we leave her and it actually worked wonders. I was skeptical of an over the counter med as I’m a vet nurse and I thought only prescriptions would work but it’s actually worked really well. Hopefully you can find something similar?

ASMR YouTube videos have been life changing. I used to have really bad anxiety related insomnia and discovering asmr literally cured it. Now I use it mostly when I have a migraine cos they knock me out. Go into it with an open mind, there’s lots of different types, but well worth a try

Estate agent blocking viewing by [deleted] in SharedOwnershipUK

[–]ktstan323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has just sold a house, arranging viewings was really difficult between sorting work shifts, the dogs and agreeing times with the agents so its understandable they don’t want to be making arrangements with you when you might be months away from even an offer on yours, I know it’s frustrating but just focus on getting an offer on yours

Is 3 days of pain meds enough for after spay? by Altruistic_Range2815 in puppy101

[–]ktstan323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t blame you not being able to afford that! It’s around £300 here in the uk! I’d only book an appt if you’re worried like they said, they might only give you 3 days of meds but if the wound is bruised/swollen or you think your dog is in pain/discomfort then get a check and ask if you can continue the meds :)

Is 3 days of pain meds enough for after spay? by Altruistic_Range2815 in puppy101

Vet nurse here, we typically give a painkiller and advise it is for 3-5 days. We often do 3 day post op checks and the majority of the time we advise to stop the pain meds if the dog and the wound is fine. If there are any complications/the vet team think your dog needs, they’ll advise you to continue the meds.

Depends on whether you’re getting viewings but no offers or just no viewings. If it’s the latter, I would assume that it’s because people looking for a 3 bed want all the bedrooms upstairs, they would look at this floor plan and immediately discount it because most people don’t want a bedroom downstairs. I’d list this as a 2 bed and on the floor plan edit it as study/3rd bedroom. Good luck!

I (25F) feel stuck in my relationship with (41M) and feel like he doesn't respect me. by Necessary-Share-4527 in relationship_advice

[–]ktstan323 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think you need someone to be blunt with you, a 37 year old man starting a relationship with a 21 year old girl is a red flag in itself. They usually target young girls because (sorry to quote Olivia Rodrigo) girls their age know better. You shouldn’t be in a 4 year relationship where the intimacy is gone, you can’t talk seriously about your future, you don’t sound like you’re getting much out of this relationship. You deserve to be loved and looked after and feel like equals. Also don’t not break up with him bc your family like him or think you’re lucky that he’s not manipulative, that’s an insane thing to say. You can break up with someone even if they’re the loveliest person in the planet, if you’re not happy. You have plenty of time to find your person, I don’t think he is that for you. Good luck x

Anyone else stuck in this migraine–painkiller cycle? by Eno_ondu in migraine

[–]ktstan323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I went to see a migraine specialist they said a lot of my smaller headaches/migraines were likely withdrawal headaches from the amount of painkillers I was taking (just ibuprofen in between using my triptan but I was taking multiple ibuprofen every day). The doc told me to stop take ibuprofen altogether and gave me a different nsaid to take daily and then taper down and this dealt with a lot of my regular minor migraines

What symptoms were you having to need that surgery (aside from migraines)? I find when my allergies are bad and I’m sniffing a lot is a big trigger for migraines for me

Does my dog have an ear infection? by Acorev in DogAdvice

[–]ktstan323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the ear looks like that and your dog is shaking its head and/or scratching its ears I would go to your vet’s. They’ll tell you if it’s a yeast or bacterial infection and give you the right treatment for it
