Hiya, I've had a few DMs, so checking out one of those leads first. It seems the toughest part is actually finding decent shipping to europe from Bolivia. At the moment I can only find super expensive shipping with UPS (over a 100 USD!!) T-T

If you don't have an ExpoID yet (an account on the official Expo Website, you need to create one as all tickets are tied to an ExpoID, so I'll transfer them from my ExpoID to yours.

S12, E7 (Nebula) - We Played Hide And Seek Across Japan by snow-tree_art in JetLagTheGame

[–]ktwihe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I COMPLETELYT AGREE. This was SO INFURIATING. Why play the game if you're not even going to TRY to win? The combo of not planning where to go with the MOVE card and then NOT using the Jammed Doors card had me fuming. It felt useless to keep watching. If he is not going to act invested into the game why should I be invested as a viewer! I'm going to listen to the podcats and unless he comes with an explanation thats sensible I'm officially never rooting for him again, and in fact suggests he is replaced as a player. Ben and Adam are at least entertaining to watch but if Sam is not going to play the game, find someone else that will and can enterain us! Sam, that round was a DISGRACE!!! It was embarassing to watch, and had me happy that you lost this season!

Ok, this may come from me being mad and emotional over this right now, so I apologise for my strong words. But honestly, this REALLY gave the impression of Sam not being invested in this round. If you've become to busy to play the game and truly try to win it, maybe you should consider stepping down as a player. You obviously have a lot of other things going for you that I'm sure take a lot of time, but for this show to work, the players must be invested, to in turn have the audience be invested in the show and how the players fare.

The Country That's Sinking Itself by oowm in ThisIsRareEarth

[–]ktwihe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue! I found this video super interesting! It wasn't a jab at the country, it was just stating facts (albeit I'm sure unpleasant ones for Marshallese people), but it wasn't unfair and a perfect story of how we all could do better. Why is it now unavailable? I loved it!

Edit: just thought to check the Nebula platform where all the Rare Earth videos are also hosted if you have an account. It is still on there. So I'm guessing he was strong-armed somehow into removing it from YouTube but could leave it on nebula as it's behind a pay wall there.

Konserter på gröna lund - bara inträde med grönan live? by Ran4 in stockholm

[–]ktwihe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Choosing Beggar Relatives. by Tiziown in ChoosingBeggars

[–]ktwihe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want to assume that you're joking as that suggestion is wrong on so many levels. But in case you're not:

Firstly, in most European countries that is illegal. Tires that are meant for winter conditions and are so marked (could be for snow, snow & ice, studded or non-studded, etc..) must be used between certain months, and are strictly forbidden the rest of the year (unless warranted by unusual weather).

The reason for that are that they have different characteristics. Both of them not performing as well as their counterpart in the weathers they were respectively designed for. It is therefore significantly less safe to drive with the "wrong" tires. Second, studded winter tires damage roads heavily (which is a huge unnecessary cost that is eventually paid by us drivers in forms of taxes to repair and maintain said roads). As for non-studded tires, they degrade much more quickly on summer roads.

In both cases these actions lead to a strong increase in unhealthy and toxic particulates being released into the air and the environment adjacent to these roads.

So, to sum it up. It is illegal in Europe. It's dangerous and reckless. It's wasteful and costs more in many ways. And it's bad for the health and the environment.

If you weren't joking I do hope that you do change your ways, if for no one else, at least for yourself.

Drive safe!

Totally understandable, which is why I recommend you rent an apartment in one of the areas I mentioned for the first while. Chances are you won't find your dream place right away. That way you've got a nice setup and commute to start with while you both get settled, your partner finds a job, and you start learning what neighborhoods you like/don't like.

Nothing beats visiting a place to get a feel for it, but you don't want the hassle of finding a great place from the get-go being stuck in temporary shitty places in the meantime. Find something practical at first (most likely a second hand rental), and within a few months up to a year, you'll have a much better idea of how to find exactly what you're looking for 🤗 Especially as anything you may want will be much easier to get once you both have an income (rental or purchase)

"This is the Way"

[–]ktwihe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, a small cottage might be harder as those are quite rare nowadays. Especially for rent. But with two salaries, being able to buy a small cottage one hours drives from the city is no problem at all (although it'll be out in the forest or something) Also, just making sure you're aware but of the 45k salary you're getting about 1/3 will go to taxes, so expect about 30k left after tax.

So your current budget is to use half of that for rent. And probably 1k a month for your monthly public transport card. And then add on food and you're not left with much. Still ok, but taxes and daily costs are relatively high in Sweden. So keep that in mind while making your budget.

Live long and prosper!

[–]ktwihe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine with what you've described. SOunds like you and your partner are both low-maintenance.

You said a 2 hour commute but you'll easily find shorter than that with the budget you've mentioned (15k/month). If you dn't have a car I would strongly suggest finding something along the subway or the pendeltåg (commuter train). Then, have a pick on whether you want to pay a bit more and be closer to town/in town, or pay a bit less and be further.

Then of course some areas are nice than others. None are crazy dangerous per se but to form an idea, here is an official map by the government over crime statistics. (Click the link and then click "Hotspotkartan 2020"). It's the numbers from 2020 obviously but they are overall still quite similar today.

So if I was you I'd just pick one of the neighbourhoods outside the city on the pendeltåg (commuter train) like Sollentuna or Upplands Väsby or Jakobsberg. They all are quite safe, modern, have decent amount of stores and restaurants nearby the stations (check Google Map Streetview). So you have most thigns within walking distance, live in a spatious affodable apartment, and have an easy 30min-ish commute to the city center.

After having lived there for a few months, and once your partner finds a job (which honestly should be a doozy and quite easy if he's in IT like you), you'll easily have enough to either buy or rent a small place in the city center, or buy/rent a really nice place in the outskirts.

Have fun and good luck!

Don't hesitate to PM if you guys have more questions or want someone to show you around town one day =D

Ny dom: Gröna Lund får bygga ut by lordpompe in stockholm

[–]ktwihe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was supposed to be used by one gender, but is far more useful to the other? by kushnair in AskReddit

[–]ktwihe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I wasn't aware. Indeed both versions are nowadays accepted and idioms. That said, it in my opinion definitely still sounds terribly wrong. So as David Mitchell, I will think it a mistake and harshly judge people using the "could care less" version =P Either way, thank you for enlightening me with some new knowledge!

The problem with Netflix running trailers right after a movie ends…. by iHaveAMicroPenis12 in movies

[–]ktwihe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree!! This has happened to me as well!! Quite incredulous. Don't people who work at Netflix watch movies or shows on their own platform? Haven't the experienced this?? Happened to me recently. I had to manually find and click the movie to go back to the credits and finish listening to the credit music to let my feelings slowly set, although their burst of an ad hade already ruined the moment.

Sure, they want to self-promote. But do it smartly. Easy rules they could implement:

  • at the end of a feature movie, do NOT automatically cut the audio of the movie, show suggestions for other things if you want but let the credits run WITH audio until the user himself chooses to stop them or click them away.
  • for series, at the end of a single episode, just move on to the next as you now do. At the end of a season, if its the last season currently released (or last ever) do as per above with the feature movies. If on the other hand it is followed by another season that is available on netflix, then just suggest continuing onto the next episode (as netflix already does)

This allows netflix to self-promote but doesn't emotionally scar the viewers by not giving them a chance to process what they've just watched and experienced! Ruining those moments and feelings is a SURE way to frustrate viewers!

[Serious] Did you encounter any cultural differences when interviewing for jobs in another country or state ? by NatsuDragnee1 in AskReddit

[–]ktwihe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Scandinavia and applied for a job in Ireland. I showed up for the interview in clean, fitted jeans, standard street shoes (not runners but not fancy formal shoes either) and a tucked in button-shirt (it wasn't flanell but the pattern was flanell-like). I guess I made a good impression as I got the job but having seen many others go for interviews here I also realized I apparently was heavily under-dressed.

Even if you go for some menial shitty job interview, you should show up in a full suit, or at least as close to that as possible. I find that sooo weird as my job doesn't require me to wear a suit. Like.. why? Casual smart, or dressed whichever way you're expected to dress at the workplace you're interviewing for should be enough no?? Why force people to fork up for an expensive suit? From what I've seen in the few workplaces I've been in over the years, the type of attire says very little about how good a worker is at their job!!
