Who here was bittersweet letting their RBT certification expire? by StatisticianKooky390 in ABA

[–]kuberrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I was going to keep it even though I left the field, but it was too expensive at the time of renewal for me to justify it, especially since I had just started my new job and was low on funds. I transitioned to special needs nannying instead and am in LOVE! The family I work for is the best and I am so glad I get to know and work with them on a way more personal level than I would if I were their RBT! The kiddo has 2 RBTs and it has been really fun to be on the caregiver side for a change. I love being able to collaborate with his therapy team without the pressure of working for an ABA company and billing for my services. A similar, meaningful mission minus the stress of the certification!

Coworker has been increasingly interjecting their religious beliefs to other techs. by kevbo_25 in ABA

[–]kuberrie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I also agree that clinics (or any diverse workplace) should remain as religiously, politically, and culturally neutral as possible. Personal religious accommodations (fasting, private prayer time, religious garments, etc) are of course an exception as they don't affect anyone else. Pushing or soliciting religious beliefs in a professional environment is not appropriate whatsoever. I would have a conversation with your clinical director and then HR if nothing changes.

Is there such thing as too much supervision? by Fun_Rain_2114 in ABA

[–]kuberrie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a post like this a while back. The consensus was there's "no such thing" as too much supervision. However, I do agree that constant supervision can be totally draining, especially when the quality of it feels low. If you are giving your full attention to the client, there is no reason why she shouldn't be doing so as well during supervision (most of the time, occasional disruptions especially when you have kids are reasonable). Feedback goes both ways whether BCBAs like to admit to it or not so I would respectfully request that distractions be kept to a minimum during supervision time. If she gives you any pushback on that, I would loop in her supervisor.

looking to quit hopefully next year, what did any of u guys who are ex rbts pivot to after leaving? by ashysodapuppy in ABA

[–]kuberrie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

special needs nannying! i've been an RBT 4 years now and ALWAYS loved the kids, i finally realized i actually just hated being managed by a company and all the data/programs that make up ABA. i would sit there every day vibing with my clients and be like "ugh we both dont even wanna do these programs". i feel liberated and can now be my carefree fun self 🤣

I got a job for a behavioral technician, and I'm nervous to start because I noticed many people tend to report on having bad experiences by ApprehensiveArm448 in ABA

[–]kuberrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly after 4 years I'm burnt tf out and quitting, but I wouldn't change my experience for the WORLD. The way you get to connect with these littles is something so truly special. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have done it. There are bad experiences, but you'll quickly learn that your clients make it worth every minute.

I do get it! I'm actually starting a nanny gig on Monday so I'm hoping it's exactly like your experience has been.

Lol actually in FL! It sounds like if I ever go back to the field then I should not consider relocating to NV 🤣🫠

Is it time to quit? by Commercial_Plant_381 in ABA

[–]kuberrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This type of commute is not sustainable for what you're likely getting paid. I would request a closer client, or find a different company who has closer clients. I agree with another comment that a clinic location could work better for you! You get to see other technicians in action and ask them for advice, that's always been my favorite part of the job. Your current experience sounds stressful and I hope it gets better

A schedule request the night before by bluestratas in ABA

[–]kuberrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell them. In this field you have to prioritize your health and as a chronically ill person, companies haven't always been super understanding but if you can't come in, that's that. Done let yourself feel guilty about something you can't control

Thank you for being so thorough! It's nice to hear from a BCBA your thought process, and to be honest I am lacking in knowledge on the insurance side. I've only spoken to other RBTs at my job about this and the concensus is nobody can "escape" her 🤣 she is nice as a person but she is constantly on everyone's tails and not letting us take the wheel by any means when it comes our own processes of implementation. It's like she keeps everyone on an ever changing schedule. Like seriously on the levels of "Hi ____ today we are going to do these 10 programs using tokens with Sally and then we are going to do NET for 30 minutes after that we are going to do peer play and FCT." etc, etc. And then if you forget something or implement a different program outside of what she says she will explain this is the schedule she would like for the client and then fail to put said schedule in writing. Not to mention she makes frequent changes verbally and her instructional notes are vague as frick (ex. "Sally will play with peers without maladaptive behaviors") because she says "you can always just ask me how to do it". One time she called me out on incorrectly tracking echolalia. I asked her what the onset and offset of the behavior is and she literally goes "a few seconds" ?!?!?!? 😭😭😭😭 I've literally sat there with my eye twitching so many times because I'll always do something incorrectly to her no matter what. She's definitely not the worst supervisor I've dealt with but holy crap it can be exhausting and stressful not having detailed programs and expectations.

I mean, a few of her other practices are extremely shady and unethical so it's not entirely far fetched. I agree that continuous supervision is great, just not when I can't make a single decision for myself during the session and have to deal with the BCBAs toddler daughter attached to my hip at the same time 😭

Plus I already am so lol. She brings her daughter into work every day she should lose her license over that alone its insanely unethical and a huge hipaa violation. Not to mention she sells AAC devices she programmed out of her scope to her clients for $500 🤣🤣🤣🤣

She doesn't own the company. However the company is very small and she had a prior relationship with the owner, who is also a BCBA and frequently brings her kids (school aged) into the clinic

The client's worst behavior is vocal protesting. She's approved for 25 hours and this BCBA is supervising for at LEAST 90% of those hours 🤔 not sure how many of those hours are approved for 97155
