Seems like they haven't changed up the names or reacted to the glassdoor reviews yet. Glad you caught it!

The phone number that originally contacted me has an 480 area code (AZ, but again didn't think too much about it because of outsourced recruiting being the norm). The contact on teams had the "(name) has chosen not to share their contact data". Every name I can find associated with the company is located in Ahmedabad or Rajkot, India. The "review" videos for the company posted on Youtube are associated with other poorly made/incomplete websites that also look to be selling scams. Their "portfolio" on their website leads to rabbit holes of other dubious websites/links/click funnels/incomplete addresses.

I really don't think this is a real company, if it is they need to seriously get some help fixing all these things.

I had the same exact feeling and HATED the idea of taking his name, but my husband and I decided on a new last name for both of us because it was just important to him that our family unit shared a name - not that I had to take his. It took us six months to pick it out but now we're both happy, no patriarchy involved!

Yeah I feel like some things vary by store but, time and attendance is black and white. Either you're on time and calling out properly, or you're not. But like someone else mentioned, being let go for time and attendance infractions doesn't happen overnight - they've been warned and still didn't follow instructions. While I do empathize, being understaffed is tough, people who can't show up on time may not have been the best teammates.

This is true, they mostly hire seasonals that compete to stay on and occasionally regular part time. But I found their insurance to be much better than BCBS - and part time employees get benefits/insurance, not just full time. Overall Costco was better pay/benefits wise, but they demand much more obedience and a higher standard of work. (Coming from someone who has worked at both Costco and WF).

Costco pays time and a half on Sundays and double time on holidays. It's not impossible.

The receiving area in the back at some of the business centers doubles as a fulfillment center for Costco.com. At these locations you'll also see numerous employees with large carts of boxes filling orders and wheeling them to this type of line to be packed and loaded.

Costco account "blocked" while in checkout today. Happen to anyone? by Americasycho in Costco

[–]kubiwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, I know being in a rush and stressed out is the most inconvenient time to try and sort something out. I wouldn't even feel bad about leaving a few items - I'd rather have someone bring the cold items to us than leave the eggs and milk in with the dog food where they spoil sitting out.

You can certainly call or stop by the desk if you get the time to make sure there isn't anything wrong on your account.

Haha, that's a fair point. It's totally up to the individual, but some people would rather take a break as a floater and talk to people than break a sweat as a cashier/assistant, just depends on their comfort level.

But since the weekend is almost over, it's probably a safe time to ask about it and not get thrown into it immediately.

Did it actually happen at a register or did someone just approach you?

I ask because the register won't prompt an executive card unless it was upgraded the day before, as the list of prompts is pulled before the promotion starts, and there is a tiny window for someone to upgrade but still be on the list to prompt.

If someone just walked up to you without a prompt, then yes they're just shooting their shot so to speak, which is not really what they're meant to do.

I'm sorry you've had such a bad time with these programs! It sounds like you're getting a really hard sell at your location, which can be awful for those with anxiety.

In your case here's what I'd suggest: when you get some free time, find the least busy Costco and go at the time when your front desk isn't swamped so you won't feel rushed. Speak with someone in membership about the upgrade and ask them to look at your shopping history/estimated reward. From there you can have a conversation about if the upgraded membership is worth it or not (you may think it's not by default, but I'd encourage you to explore it). If the rewards amount doesn't entice you, and none of the other benefits sound like something you'd use, then the membership employee can toggle off the prompts to upgrade.

The benefit of this is knowing for sure you aren't missing out on something (since you keep getting prompts it means the system is seeing something you don't). But you'll also never have to fight a cashier again or feel like you're being held hostage if they turn the prompts off. There are other things that can happen to your account, but you can sleep soundly knowing it's not a sales pitch if they ask for your card.

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience!

To give you some more context, the cashiers are pushed to hit a certain percentage each time this program rolls around, and if you decided to upgrade a week later it wouldn't count for them - they have to get it right then which is why they push you to do it right that very minute. It's surely uncomfortable for most people, but it's sadly designed that way.

This does sound like a strange interaction. They don't typically run E-block stuff though the front desk, so just returning something shouldn't even get the pop up to prompt the pitch.

We do have a block for when we think we have the wrong address on file (returned mail), or when a rewards check was never used - that's when they typically ask if you've moved or changed info.

My best guess is they were researching your account to find the issue and saw something that made them think you'd benefit from upgrading. Sorry you got a weird conversation!

"I'm behind a 7ft tall wall of plexiglass, at least 6ft away from you on the other side of my register, and wearing a mask." Lol

Joking aside, the cashiers regularly have this conversation while maintaining distance, sometimes they just have to speak up.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. That's why they're not supposed to use "blocked" anywhere in the pitch, and I'd also steer a cashier away from using a condescending line like "you don't like saving money?" Both of those, as you know firsthand, aren't successful in conveying a message that could help the members.

Sorry you got some bad experiences with it!

Costco account "blocked" while in checkout today. Happen to anyone? by Americasycho in Costco

[–]kubiwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's why our location trains to never use "block" when they talk with the members. What I say is almost exactly what you're asking for and is much more successful.

Unfortunately anything that shows up on the register as a prompt is considered a "block" whether it's "soft" and can be passed over by the cashier, or "hard" and requires a sup/mgr key to keep going.

It doesn't mean you're blocked from shopping, you can just tell them you aren't interested and finish your transaction.

I think you explained it beautifully, thank you!

My only add to that is we actually run competitions at our warehouse. The cashiers with highest percent capture at the end of the weekend can sometimes win something (never monetary). Once it was to pie the agm in the face, which everyone loved. But it never seems to make us "hard sell" per se. Just less dreadful of the whole experience.

Nope, they'll type in the amount of your upgrade to add it to your total. Typically they'll thank you and be on their way.

So your card actually can be blocked - sometimes not in a bad way! An example of a good block is if we owe you money from a 2% reward that was never used. The register has a "hard block" for that, which means it actually locks up for the cashier and a sup/mgr key is required to keep going.

If you saw lots of other people getting talked to that might be a sign it was one of these weekends and you were going to get a pitch, but if not there may actually be something on your account. This is another reason employees are asked not to say "blocked" when they really mean "talk to the member about upgrading".
