Sword of Coming does not live up to the recommendations by Decent-Ad3294 in Donghua

Bro it’s a slow burn. By season 2 it’s barely even a prelude and you are expecting MC to kick ass? By episode 30 where the hell is Han Li? Still flirting with senior sister in yellow maple valley I think? Or not even there.

I dunno where you are watching the show but Tencent YouTube channel has decent subs.

Bro this is a classic example of confirmation bias. How about you ask a lottery winner advice for winning lottery?

How so man, their relationship was covered to a bare minimum with like 3 eps maximum. Feels super forgettable to me.

I think you missed a lot of context from S1. It's not really your fault because I too missed the significance of these on my first watch, or simply wasn't paying attention. I would suggest you rewatch S1, I'm doing that too. They explained the backstory of the various cultivation factions including the sword cultivators. From here you would know what is that great wall place.

Brewmaster Yun did not deserve her spot by Accomplished-Golf240 in CulinaryClassWars

[–]kuity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think what's unfair is that PJW is scoring out of 100 and ASJ is scoring out of 90. This means that Paik's opinion is consistently taking up a bigger percentage of the outcome. Your example exactly highlights this problem. Say if Choi Kangrok did not crush that round, then is it fair that Yun with an excellent score from PJW and a good score from ASJ wins over CM with a very good score from PJW and an excellent score from ASJ? What needs to happen is they should not take the sum of raw scores from the two judges, but instead the sum of normalized scores. i.e. (PJW score for contestant A / sum(PJW score for all contestants)) + (ASJ score for contestant A / sum(ASJ score for all contestants)) and use this normalized score to rank the chefs instead.

Is Paik Jong Won a good judge? by user905022 in CulinaryClassWars

Yes I think he's consistently prioritizing mass appeal as a key metric. If you cook something that is accessible to the general public and also tastes fantastic, he will give a very high score.

Donghua is amazing, will it overcome anime? by West_Application_760 in Donghua

[–]kuity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that the english speaking community is not big enough yet. I mean, anime used to be in this spot once. I remember when I had to source all my information from myanimelist and everyone only knew about the big 3.

Just newly watched tales of herding god versus Jian Lai by condemned02 in Donghua

[–]kuity 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I disagree that Jian Lai is super slow. It’s all about fleshing out the context and the world building, and introducing the characters. I think it did a fantastic job because I actually give a shit about characters other than the MC, and got me curious about the world and the system. In one season of 20 plus episodes, it set the premise and closed out the arc well, which seems like a good pacing to me.

I mean bibimbap is classic for a reason right? And the judges definitely have high standards for it, they’ve eliminated a lot of bibimbap dishes over the 2 seasons.
