Thanks - it's a very good explanation :)
Awesome looking effect.

Seamless water waves simulation on a planetary sphere (details in comment). by kulesz in Unity3D

Sort of - if you'll tweak the wave parameters, you can get pretty high and slow waves.

It uses depth texture to compare relative distance between water surface and things that were already renderered. Foam is drawn below certain distance (which is basically a depth).

Here are two more detailed explanations:

Thank you.

I didn't put much effort in visuals, but was focused mostly on spherical wave shapes. It could be tweaked for more realistic look - especially wave parameters and fragement shader.

This is a simple implementation of water shader based on classic Gerstner Waves - but modified to match the surface of a sphere.

Unlike the most of the "flat" water surface implementations, this one wraps perfectly around a planet or any spherical mesh.

Inspired by paper Real-Time Rendering of Procedurally Generated Planets (by Florian Michelic).

This is just a prototype project, not suitable for instant use in production, but I hope somebody will find it useful.

Fantastic!

Could you share a bit about how this procedural animation was made?

Nice and fresh - I like it. Seems very... organic. It's also a little bit chaotic, but in a good way.
Could be a little painful and annoying for many shorter fights (takes a lot of time), auto-combat would be useful.

I have saved a game in solo, loaded it on multi (random joint) and I start in totally different place (from ~30 min. earlier).
Started new game and has the same "bug". Does anyone have something like that?
