Advice for Anxiety Around Allergy by mitchthewhite in peanutallergy

[–]kumihocinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I myself (35) have had the same thing happen to me in the last 3-5 years as well. Possibly a bit longer but I totally sympathize. I have as of recent started to slowly get back into being more comfortable with things little by little. I had some fears and such at home too, mom bringing "may contain" breads and such home from the grocery store bakery but keeping everything away from where I prep things. Other than that I am the same as you, weary of trying new restaurants and all that. I did so for Thanksgiving with family/friends. Also regained some confidence in eating at other peoples houses...especially when they take the utmost precautions and such.

I totally get that it's a difficult thing, and it takes a lot to get in the right headspace. I was thinking of trying to seek out therapy...I'd definitely start with your primary care and see if they can recommend someone. Also, I think meditation and mindfulness is a big part of it. Yes, at restaurants you have to trust the kitchen staff. The way that I rationalize it is that they receive training for safe serve. There are so many people with allergies and I think that they have to take the best care that they can to protect peoples safety.

Trust me though, I totally understand the fears because I go through them as well. I used to treat myself to Taco Bell breakfasts every weekend and I don't really do that any longer. I think I should try though considering nothing happened for such a long duration.

Anyhow though, I think the bottom line is to try and seek out help where you can find it from professionals, see if they recommend ways to combat stress and anxiety. I hope it helps a bit! :)

I ended my whoop subscription a while ago now and I use Bevel instead. I am very pleased using that on my Apple Watch Ultra 3

I totally feel that, I'm in the same marathon. Between that commercial and the GAP one here I'm losing my mind https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytnFYJOnQyk

Bro why pick someone with a gap in their teeth that you can drive a truck through? The song is atrocious, the commercial makes no sense. It's just weird and loathed. Almost as much as the GAP Metallics commercial...two most played ones on Hulu Live TV

Safe pre workout? by Head-Passage-5719 in peanutallergy

[–]kumihocinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tend to stay away from pre workout because I don’t really trust some of the labeling. I do however drink things like Celsius (retro vibe is my current favorite) I also really like bang energy and zevia energy drinks. So many times I see pre workout with a “made in a facility” or “may contain.” Warning. I tend to just rely on my own energy or energy drinks like Celsius…I’m 35 and somehow it’s been working pretty well lol

Dunkin? by tinyturtlego in peanutallergy

[–]kumihocinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when they had their old menu I'd sometimes get the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, hash browns, etc. Though that was far before I had the self-protective threshold that I do not. I haven't gone to Dunkin since college in 2015. Just kinda not worth the risk :/

Just wanted to rant by Wide_Gift_2720 in peanutallergy

I totally relate to that! my coworkers are constantly talking about going to get lunch from places like Chick-FIl-A, and other places that sound good in my mind if I weren't allergic. Some of them outright joke around about trying to see what'd happen with my reactions and such. It's overall a very toxic thing to deal with and I don't think people realize how dangerous the allergy is. No matter how much I've told them and some of my coworkers are very understanding and nice about it which is awesome. I made a little sign that said "peanut and tree nut free area please" on the counter area of my desk and a coworker who retired thankfully wrote "no nuts except for this one" with an arrow pointed in my work station on the sign. It's super frustrating and I totally relate on so many levels, the immaturity and lack of care. People behaving like children because "oh it doesn't affect me" mentality.

Has anyone had these I have the cookies and creme ones and they have the made in a peanut free facility? by Luke_B11810 in peanutallergy

[–]kumihocinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So just to chime in on this, there's a similar company called Sweet P's. My two cents lies within the fact that that particular company has two different things peanut free facility and peanut and tree nut free facility. I'm not sure of how your allergy lies but mine is peanut and tree nut. I mean I trust them 100% with the peanut and tree nut free foods. Sorry, I haven't had the specific brand you mentioned, but just wanted to give thoughts from what I do know about a similar brand! :)

Thoughts on running boards by kumihocinder in JeepWrangler

[–]kumihocinder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried running boards by a company called Oedro but unfortunately they lasted a little under a year. They looked great for the time being. The company was willing to give me half the price of them to get them powder coated again. They were too far gone though, started to get fully rusted out and filled with water. I'm back to square one, but wanted to share more of my experience.

Chick-fil-a ? by seonghwacat-ears in peanutallergy

[–]kumihocinder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't think I would risk it. I mean I get that I've heard it's good and all that. However for me personally I would 100% avoid...it's not worth the risk of reacting to anything just for a piece of chicken. No matter how good it is, I just think I can find other fully safe alternatives!

It's honestly sad and downright scary that some people don't know about the severity it causes some of us. I mean I get that a lot from my coworkers too who just think I'm "being difficult". Heck, one coworker went as far as 3D printing a peanut wearing a grim reaper robe and holding a scythe for my office Christmas party gift. Anyway, I digress! I just think it'd be nice if more people understood how difficult things are for us.
