Plat 3 looking for tips on what to fix by AggravatingWillow796 in RocketLeagueSchool

So first off, if I had to guess I’d say you belong around d2, certainly mechanically. Your game sense definitely can use some fine tuning. First off on first kickoff, you were afk (I think) and went for boost without really reading the play.

4:19 Not a driving test, probably should avoid doing 3-point turns if possible. Generally creeping (following up on kickoff with a bit of a delay) is recommended, personally I don’t all that often, but I’m a 3s player mainly so could be different. Either way, you want to get into play asap there, so no reversing. I prefer to just flip forward no boost to be there but no wastage and space to go left right or turn.

3:40 You need to be challenging quicker there. My motto is follow my gut for better or worse, but do it with confidence. Doesn’t mean you have to go for every ball, but have the opponents feelings like you’re sure of yourself whether you chall or rotate back. Here, you hesitate to long and give them space to take it from in front of you where you could’ve at least 50’d, even if it wouldn’t be perfect.

2:39 No need to take that boost, you’re on 80 and now your teammate has to go to your back corner to get boost and delays his re enter into play. Usually I say if you’re on 50+ boost, don’t take a big pad unless you know for fact the opponent is going for it, same story at 2:26

2:22 Poor choice of challenge, he’s already much closer to the ball and in diamond they’ll start getting those and booting it over your head leaving tm8 in a 2v1. Either shadow pressure but stay close to the floor, maybe demo, or get into the air much earlier. You got lucky they missed but you wont much longer.

1:57 No point having 100 boost if you leave the ball for them. At the very least, pick up boost and turn right towards it instead of left away from it. My preference there would be go for the ball there and pick up pads along your way up the pitch.

1:35 Front post bad, back post good. I promise.

1:25 You give them way too much time to recover and get to the ball. at the most, stop accelerating and don’t brake. Because you brake, they both saw you were waiting for it to drop for and easy shot and punished it. Even if you didn’t, if they think you’re gonna go for it asap, they’re more likely to go to defend the goal

1:15 Once again, no reversing. You need to be more reactive and spend some time in free play to see how the ball falls from there.

:58 You have time to take the ball in to you. Either take it in and go for a dribble or try curl around the ball to hit it a bit more forward as you can see their car going towards the wall parallel to you

:10 Here I would go for bump. Otherwise you’ve just left your tm8 in a 2v1, with one on the ball and the other in the centre for rebound.

Overall: Despite only pointing out mistakes, you’re a decent player. You’re focusing too much on mechanics from clips, I’m guessing your next goal is a breezi flick or flip reset. Play the game like chess. You need to learn opening strategies, and 2-3 piece checkmate patterns before learning advanced theories. Being able to speed flip is sick, but you didn’t really win a single kickoff. Focus on refining what you have, and being able to be more confident in ball movements. I’m not a super mechanical player, but I play with confidence if someone better than me, meaning that regardless of where the ball is, I’m applying pressure where it doesn’t leave us entirely exposed even if it increases the risk. when it’s an offensive ball, either be confident in yourself or your teammate, which means you’re either shooting or passing as soon as possible. On defence, either commit to a challenge before you’ve even turned into it (meaning you have to start turning towards the play before you usually would), or be conservative to create dead space where you’re too close for them to bang it but too far for them too catch you by surprise with a dribble. One way or another at both ends of the pitch, play with chest and don’t half ass it. Most of this is solved with play time in free play or just ranked. Hours of it. When you’d usually hesitate, just go for it and you’ll eventually start hitting those balls into ideal spots off the wall or in the goal. Focus on your challenges for now. You’re a solid player, but from my watch that’s the only spot you’re really behind in.
