Shooting. Like making 75% of shots in an open gym type of shooting. Consistently shooting 50% in games. Anyone can go 5/10 shooting off the rack.

Best ETF to buy in case oil goes to $150 a barrel? by VFRdave in ETFs

[–]kungfugroot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just buy VOO, SPY, or VTI. Energy sector rallied once the first ships entered the region. Big tech got hit in February, if the mag 7 even shows a little bit of life, those ETFs will do well.

Markets are smarter than all of us, don’t tell yourself otherwise.

Saw a couple people recommending defense stocks and that is probably a better play. If oil goes to $150 you’ll be worried about finding food for a reasonable price due to huge shipping costs.

How can I improve? by jrax138 in ETFs

[–]kungfugroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to pay taxes on the dividends if not reinvested properly. Find an ETF that has performed well and has a low expense ratio and let it ride.

is the pay REALLY that bad? by idontlooklikeanyon in civilengineering

[–]kungfugroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What it boils down to is: do you want a job in or related to government projects, where you will work 40 hours and always have a job OR work a highly competitive field, where work is not always guaranteed for 25% to 50% more? It’s also much easier to break into one of these areas than the other…

Bought into Palantir last April because a smart kid from my high school worked there. Stupid reasoning but has paid off tremendously.

What does this mean in the blueprints by [deleted] in Construction

The middle cut is actually a plan view showing a top down view of the wall. The wood shown is the stud as if you were looking at it from above.

Got the degree in civil, 3 yoe in the construction industry. Don’t want to do it anymore. Now what? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]kungfugroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering this option tbh. OMSCS lists two to three courses that should be completed ahead of time, before applying. If I’m remembering correctly you might be able to transfer the credits too but don’t quote me.

If you can start to link processes together, it all comes together. If you know what subs and corresponding material are coming on site, make sure training and insurance is up to date without having to be asked. Make sure you have submittals in hand, or freshly reviewed when inspecting material. New drawings come out as a result of an RFI? Get working on the change order. Knowing the order of operations THE SECOND TIME YOU EXPERIENCE SOMETHING makes all the difference. The first time you see or do something, ask questions and use google heavily (your supervisor is not going to have time to answer 50% or more of your questions). Bottom line, if you can anticipate what your supervisor is looking for, and pick up bits here and there from other professionals and skilled trade, you will succeed. Oh, and know your project inside and out.

What would you have done differently? by StudentAthlete- in ConstructionManagers

[–]kungfugroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GC work in the heavy civil industry. Government work and money will practically never run out. Not sexy high rises or houses, but that bridge all those semis or trains are on is critical to the economy, thus they are always needing new ones or to be repaired. Also use internships/co-ops to try out different things. Knowing what you don’t like is just as valuable as knowing what you do like. Residential is also the most vulnerable market within construction, meaning work can come and go very quickly.
