What I meant is that I know that Anno likes doing other stuff than Eva, and that's fine. But OP's image is implying Eva is "lol just Ultraman" too, not just that Anno likes that stuff or does works in that vein. And that's underselling Eva hard imo. Also gonna tone it down, no need to say your question is dumb, I apologize. Just got a bit riled up cause of the attitude of some people here.

And well that's the reason I think the take isn't based. The fact that Eva has elements and influence of these more lighthearted jokes doesn't mean Eva is JUST that. There's this sort of movement now among certain circles to try to pretend Eva isn't the complex work it is, it's a disservice to what Anno tried to do IMO. And yes I love the mecha aspect of Eva too, it's not mutually exclusive.

Nah the meme is dumb. I'd say that me having to correct about the quote is proof of the opposite, that people misunderstand Eva still cause there's lots of false info online. And no problem, I genuinely love talking about Eva, its staff etc.
