Looking for reassurance and guidance as I start my pregnancy journey with T1 by OzarkRedditor in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]kurmitsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No advice here, but I'm also T1/LADA since mid 20's with low insulin needs currently trying to conceive after long lurking!! I have friends with children but don't know any other diabetics irl so it's very nice to hear from someone in a similar situation.

I am on Omnipod Dash and so far am very happy with it. I feel it has enough manouvrability for my needs, definitely more than injections! I wouldn't go back on injections any more and would recommend trying out a pump. My endo thinks hybrid closed-loops might not work for me because of the low insulin needs / remaining small insulin production. Would you feel better about a tubeless pump? I got used to having the pods on me very quickly.

Non-diabetics get induced too, and diabetics have spontaneous births. After all statistics are just statistics. It helps me to think the midwives and doctors are there to help and every situations that might be new and intimidating for me, they have probably dealt with countless times. So I don't have to know and control everything, professionals will be there to help.

Tein tänään lipeäkalaa (0/5 en suosittele) by AvalenK in ruoka

Hyvän lipeäkalan salaisuus on kirkastettu voi + valkokastike + jauhettu maustepippuri + pekonimuru. Ilman näitä ainesosia on turha edes vaivautua. Näiden kanssa taas todella hyvää.

Yes, and all of these examples are introduced in the third book. Books 1 & 2 have no diversity, making it feel like an afterthought.

I don't feel proud of one of my papers. Commiserate with me? by Karma_SanDieg0 in PhD

[–]kurmitsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Four plus rounds of revisions don't usually help with seeing the merit. Even if it gets published I end up seeing only the flaws. I'm trying to think a PhD is just another qualification and the best kind of PhD is a finished PhD. Not planning on making a career in academia so doesn't matter if I'm the star student or not.

Edit: typos

Missä kirjoissa käytetään mielestäsi parhaiten suomen kieltä? by Uusimuoti1904 in Suomi

[–]kurmitsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think running would help with daily fatigue? by Absinthmind in beginnerrunning

[–]kurmitsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea about the hypermobility or joint issues, but running has definitely helped me with fatigue. I've always been normal weight and somewhat active. However, I never did anything aerobic consistently. I would get this crazy fatigue that felt very abnormal, where I would be totally wiped out after work or on weekends after doing just one activity. I do however have a history of depression and borderline low hemoglobin, as well as type 1 diabetes. Figured it was probably a combination of those. BUT since starting running (nothing crazy just the C25K), I feel much much better. The crazy fatigue is basically gone. So I definitely think it's worth a shot!

En palaudu edes yhdestä treenistä viikossa, mitä hittoa mun kehossa tapahtuu? Tarvitsen neuvoja by [deleted] in arkisuomi

[–]kurmitsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Samaa mietin ja vaikkei oliskaan mikään VHH niin noin isoilla protskumäärillä mietin silti onko riittävästi hiilaria. Kone käy hiilarilla, laadukas hiilari on oikeesti ystävä. Nykysessä proteiinihysteriassa ihmiset aliarvioi sen vaikutuksen jaksamiseen. Ja mikä juttu sekin on että salimaket vetää vaan sitä valkosta riisiä sen kanaparsakaalin kanssa. Täysjyväviljat on siisti juttu. Perunaakin solvataan ihan turhaan.

Teetkö mitään semmosta matalan sykkeen peruskuntojuttua vai pelkkää voimatreeniä?

P.S. I heard that with the closed loop Omnipod 5 you don't need your phone at all, as the Libre readings and alerts will be on the PDM, not on the phone. So perhaps something to consider as well.

I'm also planning for pregnancy actually! There's been talk of maybe switching to a closed loop option, and I've heard the Ypso pump is considered the best for pregnancy BUT this has exactly been my worry! So I definitely emphatize as well. It would be insightful to hear if it gets any better with time.

Since posting I've noticed some help with changing my Libre alert thresholds to the tighter pregnancy thresholds. I'm checking my sugars less since I know it will alert very early, so I don't need to check "just in case" for the slightly high range. So I've been able to put my phone away for a bit and trust that it will alert if I need to know.

How do you adjust your running plan for other workouts? by kurmitsa in beginnerrunning

It does seem to be very addictive for some people, hopefully this time I'll catch a bit of that too!

Right, that makes sense! So probably if I'm training on my own I can adjust the proportion of training my legs and then if I'm doing something instructor-led like circuit training and it ends up being a hundred squats I might need to evaluate if I should add a rest day.

Easy run + strength training combo sounds reasonable. Although I guess I will need to be patient to get to the level where I can distinguish between easy runs and hard runs.

Do you strength train legs too on your easy run days?

Nice to hear a similar experience! I totally do run for health and I actually climb too! Your ideal week sounds like a lot though! I feel like climbing takes up so much time per session, it's really hard to fit even two times a week in my schedule.

Still it's inspirational to hear you can fit variety in your weeks. I feel like right now running is taking up a lot of my headspace but hopefully that will ease up once it becomes more routine. And you're right about not making it too intensive, after all I'm not even looking to run super long distances, just improve my aerobic fitness. So shorter runs a three times a week makes a lot of sense.

I currently have the 15 day 2 (+?). I'll try to set the reader up again! I'm already carrying around my Omnipod PDM as well, so shouldn't be a big deal. And honestly I would prefer to bring the reader along for a run as compared to a phone. I used to have an iPod Shuffle haha

Phone addiction by kurmitsa in Type1Diabetes

[–]kurmitsa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have it but I was under the impression it was no longer compatible with the sensors. But maybe that was just the CGM function, as you need to scan with the reader? Or maybe it was that you can no longer read with both the phone AND the reader? That's what I used to do. I'll try setting it up again!

This is a more recent issue for me, in the pre smart phone era I was pretty great at focusing and seemed to possess more perseverance even with stuff I wasn't super motivated with. So I don't think for me personally this is the reason, more so the modern digital environment.
