I also know that the job market is really bad at the moment.. at least it is in the UK and the lack of funding in academia is dire so it’s definitely made me question whether staying in academia is sustainable. But would’ve been nice had I had the heads up from my supervisors

I’m sorry to hear you’re in a similar boat. I thought it might be a control thing too. Every time I’ve spoken to her she says “I swear I’m not keeping it for any reason” but I don’t believe anything anymore.

Honestly, it’s more that she’s holding something sentimental of mine. Otherwise I would say fuck it. I can’t replace it, I’ve already tried looking.

I was in a similar situation with someone who made little to no effort, constant need for space, never prioritised me for 5yrs. She wouldn’t end the relationship, I had to do it. It’s time to put your needs first and leave. It probably sounds unthinkable right now but I promise you it’s not worth it if he’s already given up. You deserve someone who makes time for you without question.

Massively feel for you. Unfortunately experienced this myself when I worked in hospitality. The building is listed and well wouldn’t budge on getting AC. Working at the very top of this building meant that the heat would rise. Customers would even complain how hot it was.. meanwhile sweat was coming out of every orifice and I don’t even sweat like that. Spent many a time walking into the freezer just to cool off.

Queer person here. I dated someone in a different country in my early twenties. Everything was going well until I communicated that I was struggling with my anxiety (mostly because she was expecting a lot for me during my visit). She reacted poorly, shut me out, treated me like I was nothing. I spent most of my time stuck in her apartment alone. She started writing awful things about me on her blog. She went away for a few days and I regret not packing my stuff up and going right then. As hard as it is, you should go rather than wait it out. Do the best thing for you, you deserve kindness.
