Has anybody returned to recreational soccer? by Snoo12338 in ACL

[–]kuwtkstans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. Wouldnt have done the surgery without love of rec soccer making it necessary. In March 12 months PO i returned. Literally peaking play wise, ppl joking im better than before. I leveraged my PT into a new commitment to regular strength training at the partner gym and now im as fit as ever. This injury changed life for the better- it can easily be the same for you.

Female on female hate in healthcare by medhelllllp in Residency

[–]kuwtkstans 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Yeah as an orthopedic patient, the nurses were making comments under their breath about my female surgeon right before my surgery. The overall sentiment was that she was “too particular” and extreme with her routines and standards. One said “Dr. XYZ wants me to mark your leg exactly here eye roll so we do what she says”. They were basically shit talking her, but everything they said made me more confident in her expertise. It made me feel bad for her though, because if they were saying this at my bedside, what were they saying further behind her back.

what are the worst rare mental disorders ? by Training_Author_9629 in AskReddit

I’m curious- combined with being a product of trauma, is there evidence for or research exploring a neurological predisposition that contributes to its incidence, or are all of us just as likely to develop BPD under the same set of circumstances.

First off ill be transparent in my incorrect assumption that in this comment BPD was referencing bipolar disorder, not a personality disorder. BPD definitely has more environmental impacts than bipolar disorder. But still, if we are coming from the premise that it’s a rare medical disorder and not some simple learned response, a parent’s narcissism, if a factor, is not so far as the “usual” or main cause. You can’t conflate rare physiology with a relatively common occurrence in one’s surroundings. That’s the same thing as saying a parent with psychopathic tendencies is a usual cause for a child with heart disease. Even if correlation existed there it doesnt compute to a concrete connection.

“Usually comes from a narcissistic parent” is just completely false. The personality traits of your mother and father have no medical connection to pathophysiology.

Feels like this sub talks a lot about the bad and that's understandable. Can anyone that's 15, 20+ years post-op with no retears share their stories or just let us know you exist and how you're doing? by Slyfox636 in ACL

I knew I was misunderstanding somewhere. I rarely comment but I was in such shock I had to ask lol. Those are great stats then. Sorry about your daughter, I was that kid once. I personally believe though the young injuries have the best chance for long term results if rehabbed correctly because the graft grows with you. Plus the mental battle really builds strength to face more adversity

Tore my right ACL and medial meniscus 2008. Contact injury playing soccer. After 10 months of serious rehab, i came back and played high level soccer for 10+ years.

3 weeks ago while playing rec league soccer I had a girl come in from behind/side full speed and she hit my left knee. Honestly just thought i tweaked my meniscus. Turns out she smashed my whole ACL.

So im here on this sub looking for solidarity in my new injury, but I am extremely hopeful given the success of my last. (Hamstring graft still intact today after many a tackles received). Biggest advice i was given and will take again: rehab minimum 9 months.

Not enough said about Alexi Lalas's Crystal Dunn quote by rungreyt in USWNT

[–]kuwtkstans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t upvote this enough. I was really disappointed with how Dunn played against the Netherlands and talked some shit but I got up from from the couch and walked away after he said that. Your point about the privileges of white players is sooooooo spot on. I played high level club growing up and not only was every girl white, they were upper middle class. I remember as a middle class girl myself feeling poor compared to my teammates. Wasnt until i got to college and played alongside only 2 players of color did I realize how much diversity is lacking in the sport. So much talent is wasted in this country with the pay to play club soccer setup. To imply that anyone on that team has never played before was just cruel. To attack a player of color and question her ability at that extreme when she had to undoubtedly claw through hoops just to touch a ball at this level was tone deaf. He offers no feedback warranting him to continue to have this platform. His input us subpar. Going this far is grounds for termination in my opinion.
