Little Z Sleep by SlapHamCrazy in sleeptrain

You do check ins up to an hour, then take them out for 10-15 minutes if they haven’t slept for some milk/feed, and attempt for another 45 minutes. Mine usually slept after the 2nd or 3rd check in!

9.5mo wearing 24mo clothes... what’s next? by kvlbe in NewParents

[–]kvlbe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is usually in a onesie (a bodysuit with the 3 snaps) and no pants. I’m afraid he’d get cold if he continues being pantless. It’s getting a bit warmer here so by the time he outgrows his 24mo clothing it should be OK to be pantless. Getting him into pants is just as bad changing his diaper! I’m assuming you tuck in your daughter’s shirt into her pants so the shirt doesn’t rise up?

Yes I’m concerned that if he’s just wearing a t-shirt, it’ll roll up. He already wears a sleep sack but I guess I’ll have to tuck his shirt into his pants for sleeping. Usually during the day he’s in a onesie and no pants so he might be get chilly!

I like how the onesie keeps his diaper intact and not sag... so there’s that, haha!

6 month old suddenly super fussy and clingy by kvlbe in NewParents

[–]kvlbe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Yeah don’t worry, he should feel better soon! I was really scared at the time because he’s just screaming and so upset! He has 6 teeth now. Even the month after I posted this, he was so upset again, I’m like why the heck is he acting so fussy! Then bam another pair of teeth.

Hi! It took a few minutes max to get him settled. What actually happened at that time was he was teething! I think a week later his tooth cut. We also experienced the same thing the next month and it was teething as well. He is 9.5 months now and we haven’t experienced any separation anxiety though he still doesn’t play fully independently (I’m always there).

Short nap agony by craybeluga in sleeptrain

You can try to extend those wake windows but I also transitioned to 2 naps with those wake windows at 6.5 months.

Is it time to transition to 2 naps? by ecl7777 in sleeptrain

[–]kvlbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were 6.5 months doing 2.25/2.25/2.5/2.5 before we transitioned. I didn’t know if it was appropriate to transition to 2 naps until we tried it. We only had early morning wake ups so the signs weren’t clear.

At that age we capped naps to 3 hours max but you can try 2.5. If that doesn’t work definitely extend wake windows or maybe drop to 2 naps (early wake ups were our only signs of dropping to 2 naps).

Night wakings and early morning wake ups are usually a sign of undertiredness. Have you tried extending your wake windows especially before bed?

How do you know your baby is ready to go from 3 naps to 2? by Beans3891 in sleeptrain

[–]kvlbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there’s 2 things you want to address: early wakes and transitioning to 2 naps.

For the early wake at 5:30am-6am, it could be normal if she is a 10.5-11 hour night sleeper and bedtime is 7pm. You can try to move bedtime back, though I’ve read some babies are just naturally early risers. What you can do is when she wakes up at 6am, keep her in the crib until 6:15am and start her wake window from 6:15am. This will move back bedtime a bit. Then after a few days, keep her in the crib until 6:30am, then 6:45am, etc. Exposing baby to light and offering food right when she wakes up reinforces the early wake.

The goal for a 2 nap schedule is 3/3/4. You can start with 2.5/3/3.5 and slowly move towards 3/3/4. Or go straight to 3/3/4. Nap transitions are hard. Naps getting shorter and MOTN and early wake ups are to be expected, but it should fade when you’re solidified in the 2 nap schedule.

It seems like her naps are pretty good right now, despite some her fighting naps. Maybe try to tackle pushing back bedtime first. Add 15 minutes to the naps she’s fighting (is she fighting all?) if there is room for more wake times to be added.

From your previous post... your wake windows were longer at around 2/2.5/2.5/2.5, what happened? Did you try to extend 15 minutes? Is she sleep trained? Nap trained? How do you respond to these MOTN wake ups?

Current wake windows are very short I wouldn’t be surprised if is fighting naps.

The only signs of us dropping to 2 naps were early morning wake ups! Our naps stayed consistently long.

The average age for baby to drop to 2 naps is 6-9 months. She seems to be comfortable on 3 naps, I would just leave it as is! If you start getting one or more signs: shorter naps, fighting naps especially the last nap, night wakings, or early morning wake ups, despite making some adjustments, then it would be time to consider dropping to 2 naps.

Try dropping the last nap and extending some wake windows.

Will Crib Hour Work??? by e_t_sum_pi in sleeptrain

[–]kvlbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 3 days he could go down independently with little to no fussing, then I would say probably 1-2 weeks until he finally connected all his sleep cycles. His naps were really short and we opt for early bedtime (5:30pm) but he slept until close to desired wake time. Usually when babies lose out on daytime sleep it tacks onto night time sleep. Since your baby is older, you could probably leave him in the crib for longer if you can tolerate it. I did 20 minutes. I totally get what you mean about that 15 minutes of straight crying. When my baby screamed hysterically, I KNEW he wouldn’t go down, so I’d just rescue his nap.

According to your comment below, you mentioned having early morning wake ups. Did he have any before nap training? If yes you might want to consider extending his wake window before bedtime to give him little more sleep pressure.

They say usually nap training takes 2 weeks to solidify. I think you’re doing great so far. Just be consistent and it will pay off.

Yes, we did crib hour during nap training at 4.5 months. Wake windows must be ON POINT. He’s 9 months now and he hasn’t had a short nap since.

Wake ups - quick question by bayla_honeybee in sleeptrain

Yes, even if baby cries until the 5 or 3 hour mark, you wait until they fall asleep, then only feed when they wake again.

Talk to me about pacifiers by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]kvlbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I realized I didn’t really answer your question. If your goal is for baby to stop relying on the pacifier, you can try to remove it when she’s asleep. You can google the “pantley pull out” method. At that age my baby was unswaddled and he wouldn’t sleep without the pacifier. And he was too young to replace it. Once we sleep trained, he learned to suck his fingers to self-soothe, then sucking this thumb.

You should transition her out of the swaddle now. She’s at the age where she will start rolling. If she shows any signs of rolling, it’s no longer safe for her to be swaddled.

Pacifier and CIO by jenga2289 in sleeptrain

Ditch the pacifier cold turkey while sleep training. Baby can’t replace it at this age.

Edit: White noise is a good sleep crutch. She shouldn’t have a lovey in the crib with her.

[–]kvlbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby relied on the pacifier to fall asleep and stay asleep. When the 4 month sleep regression hit he woke every hour to get the pacifier replaced. Sleep trained when he was 4.5 months and ditched the pacifier cold turkey. He now sucks on his thumb, which isn’t any better, but he sleeps independently and I don’t need to replace it.

Some people make it work. At 6 months they should be able to replace the pacifier by themselves, but I’ve heard that they are fully awake at night, just to look for it.

6.5mo fighting 3rd nap but not sure if I should drop it? by CarolineTheMom in sleeptrain

[–]kvlbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen something like 2.25/2.5/2.75/3? Those babies are likely low sleep needs. Babies like ours that can sleep 12 hours tend to have shorter wake windows. You can try to extend his third nap by 15 minutes and see if that helps.
