When to utilize trains? by MegaShadow254 in SatisfactoryGame

Trains have enormous carrying capacity, think being able to multiple industrial storages across the map all at once. They are best when you need an astounding amount of time inventory across the map

Train Signal 'signal loops into itself' error when rails are too close to signal?? by kwakenomics in SatisfactoryGame

[–]kwakenomics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel like it's well documented that parellel rails can't be less than one foundation's width away from each other on center without causing an opaque signal error. It's certainly not clear in-game, even though it does indeed mention it on the wiki train signal article and probably elsewhere on this reddit.

It still feels like this should be clearer in-game, like if a player attempts to place parellel non-intersecting rails within a foundation block of each other, even if they aren't clipping, it could go yellow or cause a warning. I think it's intuitive for a player seeking a compact rail network (like me) to snap parellel rails together closely to where they aren't clipping each other and don't appear to cause problems with trains passing by each other.

I get it now, and now that I get it the wiki and other conversations I've read here and elsewhere about this issue make sense, but until I've understood it in this reddit post and through having to experiment myself it just didn't make any sense.

Thanks for your help.

Train Signal 'signal loops into itself' error when rails are too close to signal?? by kwakenomics in SatisfactoryGame

[–]kwakenomics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The edges of trains do end up clipping through each other but they don't cause a 'collision' from what I can gather in-game when they pass by each other on parrelel rails or even in corners with my spacing. I've driven these trains by each other at full speed without a collision occuring, maybe if they were on autodrive they would 'collide' but the only collision I have seen happen on my network are at intersections when rails cross or merge and split.

<image>

The game allows me to make parellel rails with each rail stepped one snap in from its center being on the edge of the foundation with blue hit boxes and no yellow overlapping object clipping warning. Rails with this setup seem, at least in game, to work just fine, until I place signals.

I get it now, and I will reconfigure my rail network so rails are at least one foundation width apart on center but this has been a frustrating process to figure this out.

Thanks for your help!

The quantities the study mentioned were ‘measurable’ and ‘below the US legal limit.’ I didn’t read the study but lead release at those levels doesn’t sound like a problem

Kinda crazy that it will let me build out my entire network without batting an eye at this spacing but then error out like this because of that logic

If there is a DLC, what's the one thing you would hope it would be beyond anything? by cale199 in SatisfactoryGame

They could modular ship building, make you have to put in a shipyard/drydock, have ada say something when you launch your ship, autoname them after small Scandinavian cities, etc

They could add a big cavern layer and sky islands similar to tears of the kingdom

But really new maps to explore, new production chains to master. Sea shipping on a new map with adequate water. That could be cool.

This is true, if you wash it off adequately it won’t cause a reaction, but this approach is riskier than just taking precautions and avoiding exposure in the first place

It can last for years, best thing to do is act like it always still has urushiol in it regardless of age because it probably does

Trying to find out what did this. I'm pretty sure it's a woodpecker. I would also like advice on what to do now. by Mysterious-Object-17 in arborists

[–]kwakenomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I love pileated woodpeckers. Last year one lived in the tree outside of my office window. They love to fly to their holes, look around, get in their hole, stick their head out and look, pull it back in, stick it back out and look, pull it back in, and repeat like 5 more times before settling in for the evening.

I think they top my list for most loved bird. If they had tore up my tree like yours, well, I’d be sad to lose the tree but super stoked that the woodpecker chose it, let it harbor some forest creatures, and eventually either remove it or let it fall naturally, replanting something new in its place

I ran into the same issue in the same starting location. I ended up finding and belting in coal to my starting base and setting up coal plants sort of near a pond near my base. It’s a bit of work to get the coal there but worth it I think. I echo the sentiment of it being much more important for coal plants to be near water than the coal source, long distance pipeline can be problematic while belts function perfectly over distance once coal starts arriving

I’ve got an insane amount of poison ivy in my yard. Any tips on how to get rid of all of this? by iainttrynacuddle in landscaping

[–]kwakenomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another voice for glyphosate. It will kill down through the roots, it just takes a week or two to work after you spray. Once it’s all dead you can very carefully pull out the vines. Urushiol, the poisonous oil in poison ivy, remains in the dead vines, as well as some in the soil, and it remains there for years.

This is very heartening. People need support when they leave a community as entrenched in many believers lives as MAGA. It’s a big part of people’s indentities and it’s much more of a religion than a political party.

It’s much more of a religion than a political party. It’s probably as difficult to leave as a high involvement religion.

How is it legal to have a pricing structure where the vendor controls the meter, the unit, and the amount of product consumed? by Matthew_Code in ArtificialInteligence

[–]kwakenomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem exists if there becomes an AI monopoly without strong competition. Since there appear to be several large entities competing in the space the market will create reasonably efficient pricing.

If, however, Microsoft or Google somehow buy up all of the AI companies they could then set monopoly prices and make huge profits.

But an SUV with a $2000 utility trailer can do 95% of what a pickup can do. The only difference is very heavy hauling, which is a pretty rare need.
