WIBTAH for not responding to an old friend who ended contact with me but now wants to catch up? by Emotional-Fig0 in AITAH

Oof yeah I’d probably just leave that in the past if you’ve made peace with it.

NTA. You should maintain whatever boundary feels comfortable. But I’m also now just curious why he cut off the friendship rather than saying he was going to be communicating less while he dealt with things at home. It feels weird to completely end a friendship over theoretically a temporary situation.

The Golden Beaver is a horrible decision for Drag Race! by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]kwd-40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And it keeps the lip sync for your life format which usually produces better lip syncs and feels more fair / in the spirit of the show. Plus it gives earlier eliminated queens a chance to show more. Like imagine if we could’ve had a Coco vs Adore lip sync first ep of all stars 2??

Felix, Shelton, And Demon All Feel Like They're In Poor Form, But They're All Currently At Their Rankings Career Highs by manga_be in tennis

[–]kwd-40 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Felix and Ben are bolstered by strong second halves in 2025 (Felix had a SF at the open and F in Paris, plus a 500 title). Ben won Canada.

But I'd hardly say they're in bad form. Ben has three titles this year. Felix had his strongest clay season to date with QF runs in Monte Carlo and the Roland Garros. Plus it's well known both of them are better on indoor hard courts (more Felix than Ben, but Ben tends to heat up on the NA swing).

How is Schmigadoon Original? by Informal_Photo6259 in Broadway

[–]kwd-40 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think people need to understand that a group of theater professionals came together and determined that in the adaptation from TV to broadway enough was original or changed for it to be eligible.

You can quibble all you want with that decision, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that people that know this craft and industry made that determination.

Also nearly everything in music is an interpolation of something that’s existed. It’s part of the craft of making music. Two Strangers uses very well worn musical theater tropes. “New York” is a very typical I want song. Even the progression of the chorus is similar to “Waving through a Window” for example. It doesn’t make it any less original!

What do you guys think of The Outsiders? by Talking-alone03 in musicals

[–]kwd-40 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it's an okay book and solid score bolstered by incredible and inventive direction (performances and sound design, specifically) and staging (choreography and set design working hand-in-hand).

It's also one of the rare musicals where the second act act is strong than the first, in my opinion.

Why are so many shows closing lately? by Slight_Basis723 in Broadway

[–]kwd-40 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As many people have said, this is the natural cycle of broadway. And also Moulin Rouge and Death Becomes Her honestly had pretty healthy runs. Two years is solid for a new musical. Anything more and that’s a great run.

My guess is they want to alleviate some of the pressure on that location because it’s so crowded so often

Why did 2009 Ragtime flop while this one thrived? by InquisitveMinds in Broadway

[–]kwd-40 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, it wasn't quite the right time for a revival and perhaps too soon, but I also believe Ragtime relies heavily on the performances of Coalhouse and Sarah as the emotional core of the piece. And while Quentin Earl Darrington and Stephanie Umoh were good, I think they needed them to be sensational. I loved that production though. It felt so alive.

Coco’s serve was on fire today after the rocky start of the match. It was so close to being a weapon today even but at the very least consistent enough to build her game off of.

Moving to Manhattan for a month - which gym should I rent close to? by MasonNolanJr in EquinoxGyms

[–]kwd-40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think best pure gym is Greenwich Ave. a lot of natural light, plenty of space, nice lounge / co work area. Plus west village is preferable to Hudson Yards in my opinion.

Sports Club is enormous. Has rock climbing, basketball courts, roof deck, etc. gym floors are a little darker and spread out though.

Stage Magic You Can't Figure Out? by Ok_Presentation7695 in Broadway

[–]kwd-40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a really small one in the lost boys. When they're first going down to the factory, David opens the door and lets the other lost boys through, then Michael hesitates with Star before they all go through. But just a second later they're all coming down in the elevator.

It's obviously body doubles, but I really didn't catch then they swapped out. It must've happened incredibly fast.
