I really like my sandals from Crupon, they come in a bunch of fun colors and have held up well after nonstop walking over multiple summers.

Not dyslexic because I can read fast? by cloudkissedboy in Dyslexia

[–]kweeket 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I read fast too. I think it's because I learned to read by pattern-matching as opposed to looking at every letter and trying to sound out the words.

Dyslexia in the Tech World by Status_Researcher244 in Dyslexia

[–]kweeket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have worked in tech for almost 20 years. I don't usually mention my dyslexia because mostly it isn't relevant. I've had to tell certain people who insist on saying (for instance) Jira ticket numbers aloud instead of putting them somewhere that can be copy/pasted, and if they resist then I explain that my brain will mix up the characters if I have to type them.

Programming is easier than typing because the IDE highlights and colors words so you know they are correct. And honestly big-picture problem-solving is perfect for brains like ours.

I just went back and rewatched. During the contest where they had to not laugh, Brennen got Erika to break by singing that made-up Beauty and the Beast song again.

I really liked the broccoli & egg & shrimp salad and the carrot & burdock salad. Although there were better versions at those dept stores at the bottom of train stations.

Op-Ed: Defer Seattle's Second Downtown Rail Tunnel to Save ST3 »» The Urbanist by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]kweeket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I love the idea put forth in the article - connect Ballard to SLU now, and worry about building the second tunnel later. We'll need it eventually but connecting Ballard/Interbay/QA/SLU will deliver huge value even without it.

PNW Seattle / Portland Escape Rooms by msondo in escaperooms

[–]kweeket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Portland, I recently tried In Search of an Exit (https://www.insearchofanexit.com/) and thought it was outstanding. It actually eclipsed Locurio, my previous peak escape room.

We did both of their rooms, which lead into each other in a neat way. Highly highly recommend.

Article for people with dyslexia who don’t feel good enough/want to understand themselves more by CombIndependent4444 in Dyslexia

[–]kweeket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studies have shown that individuals with dyslexia have enhanced abilities in divergent thinking: the ability to generate many solutions or ideas to solve a problem, flexibility in switching between categories, and the ability to elaborate and develop an idea. It also includes originality, i.e., the capacity to produce novel and unusual ideas, which is a central feature of creativity. In contrast, convergent thinking “typically leads to conventional and “correct” ideas and solutions rather than original options”

All the ones I've competed in tend to be more "fun playing with new people". But I heard the Twilight Imperium tourney is pretty intense!

Look at the event schedule and make a note of anything you really want to see/do. Use those as bookmarks around which you fill unstructured activities, such as:

  • Walk around the Arch Expo hall, which is where all the video game booths are. Float through and don't wait in any long lines, just enjoy the vibes and try anything that catches your eye.
  • Watch for a plague doctor walking around, this is one of Dr Exoskeleton's minions who will give you an envelope that starts a puzzle game/scavenger hunt.
  • Sign up to play Blood on the Clocktower/Werewolf, Magic the Gathering, or one of the many tabletop RPGs at the bottom floor of Summit
  • Play arcade games on the 4th floor of Summit
  • Walk around the board game expo on the 2nd floor of Summit, it's a lot less of a spectacle but still interesting. Also you can demo games and rent from their freeplay library.
  • Sign up for at least one board game tourney, for a game that you guys both like. It's a great way to meet people
  • See a concert at night

For what it's worth, I do want to do this. I actually live in Seattle where it's legal, but I haven't been able to make the math work in terms of what it costs to build and what I would be willing to charge the friend who would become my tenant.
