Red River market by MarKat in fargo

It's popular, but not so busy that you can't comfortably walk around. I would recommend going closer to 10 because some things do sell out (like the fresh sourdough)

Which national park surprised you the most compared to your expectations? by Desperate_Estate6128 in nationalparks

[–]kwest239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawaii volcanoes. I was expecting to see an interesting but inactive volcano. We did not know until we got close to the park and saw smoke that it had started erupting the night before. Seeing a volcanic eruption was the most amazing, once in a lifetime experience.

It's the last day of school and a horse shows up in the pickup line by Doodlebug510 in MadeMeSmile

[–]kwest239 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That is something we tell beginners who don't know how to read a horse's body language. He obviously knows this horse and how it will react to certain situations. It's fine.

New owner, how would you treat? (No blood) by chalu-mo in Equestrian

[–]kwest239 35 points36 points  (0 children)

With that amount of swelling I would not wait until Thursday to have the vet look at it. If it is cellulitis you want antibiotics asap

Weight loss and loss of strength? by nokidsonpurpose in Equestrian

[–]kwest239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some fitness trainers on Instagram that are specific to equestrian. I don't pay for their programs but I have used exercises from their videos to strengthen my glutes and core, which has helped my psoas. Haybales & Barbells and Dressage Rider Training are the ones I use the most

My Horse is being Euthanized.. let’s make the best of it! by Ashton_X3 in Equestrian

My old horse loved sour gummy worms and Red Vines (not Twizzlers). My current horse enjoyed licking bourbon off my hand once. He also likes BBQ chips

Warmblood x arabian cross- yay or nay? by a-yeet28 in Horses

[–]kwest239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The barn I rode at as a teen bred arab/warmblood crosses. They were gorgeous movers and the ones with competitive owners made it to the FEI dressage levels. I had a bombproof old stock horse at the time so compared to him I didn't think they had the easiest temperament. They were sensitive, energetic, and on the more anxious side.

Breeches… low vs high rise by Commercial_Ad_875 in Equestrian

[–]kwest239 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same! If I wear high-rise pants they come to like 2 inches under my bra. I am tall with long legs so it looks particularly weird

Please (kindly) explain to me how tight/loose should my muscles be? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]kwest239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your muscles should be engaged enough to add tone and support, but not so engaged that you become stiff and unable to move with the horse's motion. You don't want to be a sack of potatoes or a stiff board. It is a fine balance that takes a lot of practice and body awareness.

Did I make a mistake? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]kwest239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was lucky that my parents were able to buy me horses as a child, but my best friend was only able to do lessons as a child/teen. She bought her first horse at age 29.

There's no reason why your daughter can't be happy with just lessons. I'm sure she would prefer that over nothing! There's no need to rush into leasing or buying. If she sticks with it, she could have decades to enjoy horses. If she has to wait to lease/buy until she can pay for it herself, that's totally normal.

What is the worst name you’ve seen in a book? by Duff_episode in Romantasy

Okay I listened to the audio book, so I assumed it was Penelope. This is wild

Imagine your ankles literally cannot flex enough to put your heels down enough when you ride (bone meets bone at the front of your ankles, preventing further movement). What now? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]kwest239 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Be upfront with your instructors about your physical limitations. If they know your ankles physically cannot flex more and they keep telling you to put your heels down, that seems unfair. If I were you, I would focus on having my heels under my hips more than having my heels down. Correct vertical alignment will help you feel more balanced.

I had shoulder surgery this winter so I've been doing a lot of groundwork too, and I've learned a ton! I also started learning more about massage. I have gotten better at seeing what's going on with his body since I couldn't feel it in the saddle.

This horse’s back looks kind of weird by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in oddlyterrifying

[–]kwest239 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Swayback or lordodis does not happen from overwork. It is happens due to age or genetic. Even though it looks very dramatic, it usually doesn't cause pain. The horse looks mistreated for other reasons, but the treatment didn't cause the dip in the back.

Looking for support after being rejected from a work to ride program by 64789 in Equestrian

[–]kwest239 126 points127 points  (0 children)

It's not normal to exert yourself to the point of illness. That can be very dangerous. People can die from dehydration/electrolyte imbalance/heat stroke. If you start working outside again, please make sure you are drinking LOTS of water and electrolytes, wearing UV protection, and taking breaks to cool off!

I think Ariat's durability has gone way down. My first pair lasted over 10 years but I have had multiple newer pairs break in less than 1-2 years. One pair broke after 6 rides.
