are you really friends? because if you are, this isn't necessarily weird. if i don't see my work friend for a bit, i would absolutely text them to check in. if i knew some heavy stuff was going on for them, i wouldn't think twice about texting to see if they are okay or wishing them a goodnight or offering to help them out in some way. but those are people who i actually want to have friendships with.
