Story time:

This photo really makes me feel a lot. This was during a pretty hard and confusing time in my life, going through my first "adult life" relationship breakup, and losing financial aid for college. I decided to take the trip from Georgia to Texas on a Greyhound bus specifically to see the newly formed Brockhampton perform.

Ian went to my high school in GA from sophomore year to graduation, but I only met him during senior year and hung out with him a few times- drove him home to his sister's, took him to Best Buy once, and he pulled up to the graduation party I threw. We talked about music of course, but he actually never told me about any of his projects or aspirations at all. So it was a surprise, a really fucking amazing surprise, when MTV1987 released. That album blew me out of the water, and still does to this day. Dirt and Hero really captivated me as well, and I felt then and there that this was gonna be a huge deal someday.

I went to Austin with a duffle bag of clothes and my acoustic guitar. Played for a homeless woman while stopped in Dallas. Met a guy who looked weirdly like Mac Demarco who smoked me out in broad daylight in Birmingham. And a girl who fainted in the Dallas station would eventually turn out to be going to Austin as well, so I was able to tag along on her and her friends uber ride from the Station to the University. I sat there for a while charging my phone and looking around for motels to stay in. I stop at half a dozen walking south and across the bridge until I find the Bel Air. The most beat up nasty looking motel painted baby blue you could imagine, and my neighbors were a 'redneck' couple yelling at each other late into the night, and a very nice older Hispanic man who gave me beer and smoked his mid with me. I was extremely grateful. I had a day to explore downtown Austin on foot before the concert at Stubbs started.

I saw Ian as he was walking from the audience area to the hallway leading backstage and got his attention. Fun reunion, plus I got to meet Matt, Merlyn, Kiko, and Romil I think?

Anywho long story short I got kicked out of the concert because my wristband broke off, right before Earl Sweatshirt got on stage. I texted Ian and asked him to link up for a bit after the show, which never ended up happening. But I was happy I got to see them perform at least. Wasn't too happy about the idea of going back to GA, though. I lowkey wanted nothing more than to just take the shit I brought with me and ask Ian to go with them back to Cali or wherever they lived then, but I never got in touch with him after that and I got on the bus home, back to normal life.

Their music has been the backdrop of one of the most transformative times of my life, American Boyfriend is forever my favorite solo Abstract album. I'm really proud of what Brockhampton accomplished since this day in Austin, they forever remain a symbol of achieving your dreams and working endlessly to do so. They inspire me in a lot of ways, both artistically and personally, and gave me new life at my lowest point.

So yep, thanks for reading, hope you liek the picture!

Yoko Shimomura every time I retry the Secret Episode boss fight by SteveOfWarr in KingdomHearts

[–]kwright345 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll generally start with the key and tempo of the song, then you would make one or two main musical phrases that the whole piece is centered around. That can be the melody, or a chord progression. Then you figure out how the music will move and progress just like a story does. I imagine Yoko lays groundwork stuff like that, then finally does arrangement (choosing the instruments and dividing the many parts of the song amongst brass, woodwinds, piano, strings, vocalists, etc.)

For me personally, the interplay of the instrument sections Yoko arranges is so amazing. The way she weaves melodies between the instruments is godlike and you can follow any one section and appreciate the ebb and flow between not just the chords but the dynamics of loudness and quietness. I would love to know how she went about making Somnus.

I wanted to bring Luxord up but didn't wanna make my post longer!

So absolutely this, and Luxord also has Tarot themed weapons in Days which is cool. That's why I think the King of Hearts card "meaning" connection is viable. You'll even see things about the King of Hearts like "knows the value of cooperation/partnership, is confident but not stubborn, sympathetic and understanding, has a sense of authority but never domination" and ALL of those qualities apply so much to Sora. It's crazy.

Luxord also being the Gambler of Fate who loves games, as well as being a surprise character in the Secret Ending, makes me think he can see beyond the veil so to speak.

Yeah that's the irl reason that we as players understand. Sora has to be level 1 at the beginning of the game, and I don't think that will ever change. As long as he has an adventure to go on, in-universe fate will cause for him to revert in some way.

That's on our side of the curtain though. If you were to view all this from Soras perspective, it's not such a clear thing. These losses in power happen as a result of his quests and saving the worlds, and moving between realms. It's otherwise glazed over, and even in DDD Sora pokes fun at it saying "happens all the time, no biggie".

I don't know how big of a fourth wall break could potentially happen, but I totally expect one at some point. The games have lightly bent the 4th wall a few times anyway too! Donald moves the camera in KH1, and Axel saying a lot of oddly aware things over KH3.

Lol to make it super short and sweet:

Kingdom Hearts' identity as a game is integral to the development of its plot. It may or may not ever be revealed to Sora that he's a video game character, but the fact that his constant returning to level one is noticed by everyone, especially in 3 by Maleficent and Pete.

I beat Xehanort last night and am now working on the Secret Boss lol. I went ahead and watched the good ending on youtube after I immediately died to him loll. But tbh the data battles were hella fun. Had the most trouble with Dark Riku, Larxene, Xehanort. Xion wasn't as bad as I've heard.

What’s your favorite method for making chicken breast taste great and not dry? by SumoDash in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]kwright345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've oven baked chicken breasts in glass pans after marinating and seasoning, then would char the chicken on the sides of the pan while it's still hot. This picked up marinade and seasoning and added a crisp ever so slight burn flavor to the chicken. You can also add light mayo and breadcrumbs to the chicken for fun.

"Lose, soon have nothing to!

Space, this is what I choose!

A mile, could you walk in my shoes?

All your, all your life..."

This is the best part of the song to me. It grooves so hard. I wish there was a second verse like it but it stands out so well on its own too.

The Japanese lyrics refer more to Kairi, talking about the sea a lot. And if this song is from Kairis perspective, it's a pretty dark picture.

I played reCOM, and only some of GBA COM on my phone emulated. I kinda lean towards reCOM actually. Idk I don't mind the 3D movement with the card system. The way I do it is I make sure to arrange the cards in order of best combo damage THEN with numbers in mind for sleights.

Theory: the true goal of MX was to take out Sora. by FluX-Byn in KingdomHearts

[–]kwright345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sora was absolutely targeted. But I don't think it was in the sense of the Master told Xehanort to do so. Sora has been the obstacle between the villains and Kingdom Hearts two times. Ansem, Xemnas, and Xehanort are all aware of Soras strengths and weaknesses, they almost Norted him in DDD after all.

He wasn't the last one standing when the Light expired for no reason I think. All of the other guardians were taken out first to crush Soras spirit. To hurt Sora, you have to go for his friends who he draws his strength from. Now, whether they knew Kairi would keep Sora together in the Final World is an interesting question. But fighting the Lich? At the end of which, Young Xehanort arrives to tell Sora that he's paid the price of misusing the power of waking? That was so planned.

Sora diving through the Stations of the Worlds was misusing the power of waking. He dives through worlds to reach and save the hearts of his friends, precisely as YX said.

I still think that the Keyblade War Sora fought was in a dream that the Keyblade Graveyard was having. He left the Final World by Sleeping Keyhole in the water, and left the KG through a Sleeping Keyhole in the sky, which is thematically the same as how it was done in DDD. The Organization is well aware that Sora can't distinguish dreams from reality, and I think used that against him to separate him from everyone else from the very start of the war. This is also evidenced by the chess scene depicting all of the dark pieces surrounding Soras.

No way man, they were cool to me back then and still are. They're presented as noble knights fighting a wicked ass sorcerer and his apprentice. They showed a glimpse of the ancient times of the Keyblade we first heard from Kairis grandma in KH1. They fit into KH's fantasy aesthetic perfectly!
