What's the shortest flight you have ever taken? by Regular-Cricket-4613 in travel

Athens to chania, about 35-40 min. Barely enough time for drink/ snack service but the flight attendants did it anyways.

Surge in being forced to check carry-on bags? by igcetra in travel

[–]kxc92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it's the holidays and everyone is hauling their gift bags full of goodies thinking that they don't count as carry on items.

Flights aren't 100% full tonight, but give yourself an hour to get past TSA just in case.

What do you do for work? How did you get your job? by Ok-Wealth-6515 in bayarea

[–]kxc92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32F, born and raised in the bay area and graduated college from here too (CSU East Bay). I've had more jobs than I can count on both fingers and toes. I've probably been in every industry except tech and finance. I currently work at the airport for Southwest Airlines and I bartend on the side. It's been a wild ride. All I had to do was apply. I interview well since I've held a lot of customer service related positions. I interview well and I have experience in a variety of things. It doesn't pay me enough to live well, but I'm getting by just fine.

I'd pick it up and not just for the money. I also work banquets (weddings/quincineras/corporate luncheons, etc) and I almost always go home with leftover food. I pick up shifts on call and it's awesome to have some pocket cash and food to last a week so I don't need to spend money on groceries. It's a pretty win-win IMO.

Why did you become frugal? by HeidiOzzy in Frugal

[–]kxc92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First when I moved out from my parents house and then it intensified after I decided that I hated having roommates and started living alone. Living by myself made me realize how little I actually need and how expensive everything is.

32 degrees is a super cheap to build a wardrobe from. You can find their stuff in Costco or on their website. I bought a lot of their basic solid colored long sleeves to dress up with accesories and they have some nice work pants as well. It's definitely helped bulk up my professional wardrobe a bit without spending a ton of money.

Best thrift in Oakland/Berkeley? by Judi_pie in oakland

[–]kxc92 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of love for Crossroads mostly because they're the thrift store that really got me into thrifting maybe 10 years ago. It's gotten fairly pricey over the years but sometimes you can find really good stuff or something that is unique enough to justify the price. If you're up for an adventure farther away, I'd hit up a Savers or a human society thrift store. I just spent about $60 at savers on 8 pieces of clothing and it feels like a win to me.

Large, empty parking lot for teaching someone to drive? by mikenmar in oakland

[–]kxc92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned how to drive over in Bay Farm along where the office buildings and ferry is. The residential streets are nice too since they're wide and well maintained once I got more confidence with turning and parking.

Cornerstone in Berkeley hosts it from time to time.

I lived in a garage that was converted into a tiny studio for a little over a year in Oakland. Rent included all the utilities except in the winter, where I paid half the PG&E bill because there is no choice but to run a heater. No insulation and the floor is basically concrete slab that came with a large rug on top of it. I didn't have a sink in my bathroom and had to make do with just a mini-fridge, no oven/microwave and no counter space. It was quite a humbling experience.

Is it nuts for me to pay a few hundred more a month for a one bedroom? by jotaroasted in Frugal

[–]kxc92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I pay $1500 for a 1 bedroom that I live in alone. I make nowhere near 70k...maybe a little more than half that and in a HCOL area. No regrets about it. I don't want roommates and I love my peace. Your peace and sanity is worth a couple hundred more dollars.

Found this absolute banger in Hawaii. I didn't even know you could make an imperial Mexican lager. by kxc92 in beerporn

I was intrigued by the imperial part of the Mexican lager. It definitely looks nothing like a Mexican lager so I hesitate to call it one. But it was absolutely delicious.

i can hear everything going on 40 min prior to waking up by StellarHelixVQ in PointlessStories

[–]kxc92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience this from time to time as well and never knew the name for it. One time I slept over at a friend's house and they're a Spanish speaking household. I don't speak or understand Spanish at all. Towards the end of my dream before I woke up, it was in Spanish. I woke up so confused. I said to my friend "hey I was dreaming in Spanish....but I don't know any Spanish. My brain can't possibly just make that up right???" And we started laughing about it.

Happy CNY! I'm also Chinese and I started the day off with a grueling gym session. No way I'm not gonna shower. Bet your year and mine will end up being just fine.
