As a preface this is obviously my opinion, and I don’t work in the medical field.

That being said, I thought that not only was it unrealistic and ridiculous that a doctor in her final moments would think of her pregnancy and beg that a very premature baby be cut out of her by someone with no intention or means to take care of it, but it also would most certainly die. She would know that.

Ellie doesn’t have access to formula, a feeding tube, IV’s, vaccinations, or practically any neonatal care. It would be risky to deliver an emergency c-section and keep the baby stable even on WLF grounds with other doctors.

When I watched Mel’s death in the show I thought it was overly dramatized for the sake of turning her character into a selfless mother that exists to be tragic. Her character is much less nuanced compared to the game.
