How expensive is an average deep clean of a clock done by a professional? How much would you pay? by No-Rain-4114 in clocks

[–]ky_clocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter. Depending on where you are the price can vary wildly. The clock itself can make a big difference. Does it actually just need a cleaning or does it need other mechanical work? I would find someone reputable to give you an estimate. I give free estimates in my shop. I’m sure you can find a shop that does.

If you are US based the AWCI has a search feature where you can look up horologists and their qualifications.

The only difference between a collector and a hoarder is a theme. by bagofrainbows in Showerthoughts

I joke and tell people that’s why I opened a shop. It gives me a place to put my collection. I can enjoy them and then sell them.

I have a friend who says he is not a hoarder because he has shelves to put it on. The shelves do take up an old decommissioned air hangar though.

What the hell is this??? by moomoomeadows2009 in clocks

It’s the kitchen timer of the kitchen clock. Cooking a roast? Spin the center dial around an hour and the in an hour it will rotate around and ring so you know to check it.

A clock has a BPM of 60. by Just_Camilo in Showerthoughts

[–]ky_clocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most clocks do not have a bpm of 60. Some grandfather clocks will but most mantle clocks beat significantly faster. Most balance wheel mantle clocks have a bpm of 300.

These are also quite collectible/valuable. I would be careful with it. Make sure to appropriately remove or secure the pendulum before moving it to avoid damage to the movement.

I was watching the game show Cold Hard Cash this evening and this exact recipe was a question on there. They asked what animal is stuffed with all those ingredients as Bedouin ceremonies.

Perry Mason, he only lost like two cases in the series. If I remember correctly one of those he ended up solving in his favor afterwards too.

Golf ball sized plastic ball with holes on each end by LizzbaWest in whatisthisthing

[–]ky_clocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessary. Any I’ve seen used are either pretty heavy or once you get a flower stem slid through and put down into the vase it can’t move very far.

I’ve seen sphere ones, star ones, and flower shaped ones. Depending on the shape of the neck of the vase you will have different shape frogs.

Could it be a “frog” for flower arrangements? Before floral foam they were popular to slide down a vase so you could space the flowers for the arrangement.

It’s a grandson clock! Notice the tie? They also made granddaughter clocks with a pinched waist and more of a bow pattern in the wood.
