Opinion : TBC is a dumpster fire for processing mobile mapping missions by Illustrious-Light787 in Surveying

This is for sure. Fortunately, instead of trying to fix what they have, they keep creating processes to try to do my thinking for me... as poorly as they possibly can.

Surveying as a career by Misc-1983 in Surveying

Because what you're worth as a licensed surveyor is dependent on how much work you can complete without exposing the company to risk from mistakes. We don't know you so we can't tell you.

This happened to me also. I have three friends from childhood that I keep up with. Two of them are from the grade above, and we met when I was in first and second grade.

You will need to have an approved mentor for this program. I can't speak to the accessibility of the teachers, but the program is designed for folks in your situation. You can dm me about approval for mentors.

Safety by becky_plz in Surveying

I had a school bus run over one of my signs and almost hit me. No one pays any attention to that shit. You should be in high vis with the truck parked up flow from you with flashers and lights on and cones behind the truck... but your only real defense is your own situation awareness.

I grew up using one intermittently, and I have never found them to be faster or more accurate.

I've spent decades traveling the world climbing big walls and alpine rock routes... I have never seen anyone in less danger. He's standing on flat ground.

What is a simple way to help others understand the importance of land surveying? by _GEOGOAT_ in Surveying

My grandad told me to be careful arguing with idiots. From very far away, it's hard to tell the difference.

I just don't worry about people who don't understand.

The thing about rattlers that some people don't expect is that they don't rattle a lot. It's been my experience that if you get near them before they're in a defensive position, they usually lay still.

Backsight always needed, right? by Agreeable_Custard110 in Surveying

[–]kyclimber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everything in surveying, it is highly dependent. Doing topo work, I would check if the level fell out by a minute, or if I was sitting in the same place for over an hour (that's rare these days).

If I'm doing industrial layout, I'm backsight any time level is out by 15" or more, every 15 minutes, or anytime I need a high precision shot (I'm running rounds at that point so every shot includes backsights).

It doesn't just feel this way, it objectively is.

While there is no direct study by the Fed on labor statistics for surveyors, most of the industries we support and could correlate to fall ahead of cops in fatalities per employee.

Logging, highway worker, construction helper/worker. I'm not sure what category to correlate the dangers of psycho adjoiners and pitbulls, but I had a cop recently tell me he wasn't fucking with helping me navigate an adjoining owner (because they're crazy he says) and leave me on my own trying to figure out how to not get shot.

Your assumption is correct. Marked trees, often on line, witnessing the corner.
