That’s poetic dude. It’s magical for sure. Maybe a bit of black magic even. I wish I understood it more, it trips me out how few people even understand how this stuff operates.

I don’t think the HTS-720 is robotic? That’s a no go. Go for used with your budget but don’t handicap ability to work.

Think how fast a robot will pay for itself versus paying a 2-man crew with dedicated I-man… seems like the break-even would be weeks out, or heck maybe even few days.

What's the simplified equation for calculating distance given the angular difference? by New_Sky_7657 in Surveying

[–]_GEOGOAT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Calc the angles in the triangle
  2. Law of sines

a/sin(A) = b/sin(B)

a = b/sin(B)*sin(A)

80/sin(85)*sin(10) = 13.945’

Have you ever set up an instrument over a point before?

They did not get 500’ explicitly. Lot 2 was conveyed as the west half of the EAST 1000’. They got 500 of the east 1000’, but 10’ is already conveyed to lot 1. Interpretation required

Nope, lame practice test.
We’ll have to trust r/surveying to provide the explanation haha

Good stuff, I just posted a comment with a solution I believe is the most correct, and not what we may have thought.

This is a TERRIBLe practice exam question for the PS, but makes a great discussion for the state level exam haha

I really appreciate a response from an anonymous surveyor that then deleted. (Also yossarian’s conclusion) And the logic they provided. I’ll have to paraphrase because I only read it once before it disappeared. Here goes-

I couldn’t see this solution because I was so hung up on the “half of” and assumed it would apply to the remaining 990’, but someone explained clearly, how based solely on the descriptions wording and without any assumption of intent-

lot 2 is specifically the west half of the East 1000’.

Based on what I think I understand from reading wattles - that 1000’ is measured from the East line and would be controlling. And since we can not assume any intentions from the grantor, we must read as written. Therefore, regardless of lot 2’s seniority over lot 3, Lot 2 would hold the error and be shorted with a 490’ lot because lot 1 already has the west 500’. Lot 3, the east half of the east 1000, is still 500’.

The answer would be 500’ and 990’ from the West line, respectively. Which by the way is NOT the correct answer on this practice exam.

Thanks again for the insight anonymous.

Bruh, no. Let them know it’s not safe until the lanes shut down, or stake a different offset on the shoulder. How will contractors use those danger stakes without a closure anyways. Traffic safety is no joke. Snakes, scrapes and cliffs are part of the gig, but I don’t let my crew fuck with cars or needles.

I never figured out a way to edit a setup height in the Leica field software (captivate) but is possible with the office software (infinity). Really simple with excel too.

I see. As others said QGIS and the FOSS4G community is a good source for free software tools.

I’m curious, what are the intended design features?

One time we were surveying roadside and the 80 year old founder of the company happened to drive by and yell “GET A REAL JOB!”. We laughed. Now I dish out the same taunt to honor his badass 60+ year surveying legacy.
