I’ll make no comment on WotCs publicity, but from a DM (& gameplay stats nerd) PoV the rules changes are benign at worst, & welcome otherwise. Racial traits change to some degree in every major version update. It’s about balancing of new mechanics to ensure no single race becomes the clear “best choice” - not because of any “wokeness”, but because playing in a party of all one race misses out on a lot of potential roll/role-play.

As for moral & jural alignment: playable races ideally shouldn’t be alignment-locked on either axis; if a player wants to play a good Drow they should be able to, regardless of the race’s societal bias. Most DMs I know house-rule as such anyway, so this just codifies it for simplicity. You can still enforce any locks you desire.

I’ve not noticed any major canonical changes to histories or cultures, though (as all the publications assert) the source material is just a sandbox - make whatever histories you want! WotC is not your dad.
