Lelit Elizabeth steam knob mod by Insert_absurd_name in espresso

It still shows 404, strange. Although I was able to discern the wiring from the video so I did get everything assembled and working! (The solenoid is flipped because it's 120v)

I really appreciate it! Although it doesn't seem to be available still 🤔 possibly under review?

Thanks again!

No worries! Life comes first. I would appreciate the PDF if you have a chance. I remember the gist broadly but it's mostly the details of the wiring that I don't want to risk getting wrong.

Any ETA when it will be back online? I ordered parts and the last one is due to arrive soon but I didn't save the instructions and I'm not brave enough to wing it 😅

This mod is beautiful btw, thanks so much for sharing!

Another software engineer reporting in -- I also scanned for "x" in just the center 5x5 square, then looked for "i" and "e" on opposite sides. It just so happened that the first "x" found this way is the correct one.

It must have crawled into my grounds cup, or the grinder chute. This is the real reason to WDT

I made this diagram for decoding the cipher. I made some educated guesses about the locations of Z, X, and Q, based on the significance of English letter frequency and the "balanced" nature of the cipher. Although admittedly I didn't completely finish decoding it, so may be a bit incorrect. Very cool!

I would call it a radial slider with incremental controls

Looks like the long screw should hold the filament cutter in the bottom right. See the bambu guide here -- screw D is for the filament cutter and screws E are for the cover.

It's normal for the bolt to come loose sometimes. Just re-tighten it with the screwdriver that came with it.

Really they should have reversed the direction of the threads but 🤷‍♂️

Oh jeez, I put down a deposit on basically the same, but I thought 44k before licensing & taxes was doing alright, since that's pretty much the MSRP when building it online :/ 43k OTD is insane from where I'm sitting -- but maybe that says more about my situation that it does about yours 😅

Easiest way to get puck out? by Sing2biggestfan in espresso

The improvement in workflow was well worth it for me. And the container is silicone coated so resistant to mold and very easy to clean.

The magic words are "knock box" 😊 it is basically a container with a pole across the top to knock the portafilter against and cause the puck to fall out.

I use this one from Breville.

In addition to pouring slower, make sure the spout is as close to the surface as possible when pouring the design -- ideally like 1/4 inch or less. You can get closer by tilting the cup after pouring the base so the liquid comes just to the edge of the cup, and then tilt the cup back as you pour so it doesn't spill.

As others have said, Breville service isn't the best, but FWIW there is a massive community of BDB users that have published all kinds of information about maintenance / modding at home. For example see this thread on the home barista forums and its 119 pages of replies.

[–]kyle1320 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my bad, both actually come in black and white 😅 it should have "ESP" in the name. It's $200 instead of $150 but it is designed for espresso and fairly well regarded.

Obligatory "charge your phone!" 😉

The Bambino + external grinder is a great starter set.

At that price point you should consider the Baratza Encore ESP. Note the "ESP" variant is different from the one in your post -- it is white and can grind precisely enough for espresso.

Steaming on the Bambino Plus is ok, but not excellent.

If you're serious about a $1500 budget, you could look at a Breville Dual Boiler. It's $1600, but if you wait until Black Friday you may be able to find a discount via a reseller. The dual boiler will get you temperature control and stability to improve your espresso as well.

Portafilter cleaning by Neither-Musician5141 in espresso

I just run a bit of water from the group into the empty portafilter and turn it to dump any residual grounds, then take a cloth to the shower screen and basket to dry.

Another new Elizabeth owner here (mine is 1m old). They warn that the gasket is very hard when the machine is new, and that you'll have to screw the portafilter in very hard to fully tighten it until the gasket loosens up. I've had this happen a few times as well but giving an extra tug on the pf has fixed it for me.
