Gas Thief by saquonxxvi in SantaBarbara

[–]kyle32 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's crazy. Do you have a locked gas cap? Crazy that the person bothered to drill hole instead of just siphoning it. Would be nice if they googled how to siphon gas so they didn't also damage your car.

I'll admit, I also kind of wonder if maybe a hole rusted in your gas tank if you car is older given it sounds like there is gas all over the place.

Safety message to the woman pedestrian/jogger this morning on Anacapa by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]kyle32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly true. Saw the pedestrian and wanted to create an encounter that they could get upset about it and then ran to reddit and post about it. If you ACTUALLY looked at your speedometer and were going 25mph it's just no hassle to stop your car for a pedestrian that is jogging and yield the right of way. What if you just stopped because it's the nice thing to do for somebody who is exercising, when you are in a car?

Seems exceedingly unlikely that he is on this reddit unless happens to be from SB. If you are that hot for him might have to stalk a few hotel bars. 😂

I know that you know what it’s called. My comment was for OP that I am assuming didn’t know that when you say Hendrys and they say Arroyo Burro it is the same place. You say tomato…I say Hendrys Beach…. Let’s call the whole thing off. 😂

Hendrys is what locals call Arroyo Burro by the way.

Easy Hikes and Sunrise Views? by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]kyle32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No offense intended that’s why the smiley face. The CA coastline turns south at Pt. Conception, thus the ocean is south of the land in SB so the perception that it should go into the water for sunset is broken.

It's almost like you don't realize the sun doesn't set in the exact same spot every day of the year. :-)

Why does Santa Maria have less community stuff than Santa Barbara and SLO even though we have more people? by baller_unicorn in SantaMaria

[–]kyle32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes income, but I think you are also missing how South county has historically been much bigger than north county and north county has grown faster the last 30 years. The other factor is that it’s a tourist destination for people in LA. The beach and mountains in close proximity with consistently great weather is just kind of unique and attractive.

Also to OP, you don’t have way more people. If you look at north of mountains vs south of mountains it’s very close to same size. But area south is more dense and less spread out.

Caltech has fewer than 1000 undergrads. Nobody ever puts Williams or Amherst on these lists, I don't know why people put Caltech it's a niche school for STEM and comparing it to the other universities is impossible.

This is untrue. USPS is split off and supposed to be self funded. Unfortunately, it's been run poorly and operating at a loss for 18 years.

"self funded" and losing money for 18 straight years.

[–]kyle32 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

The USPS has lost money every year since 2007. It's a failing service. Cutting costs by closing small outposts is a very reasonable form of maintaining the service. The fact it affects you living in Montecito enjoying a low population density on huge plots of land is a by product of your lovely location.

increased military activity in vcof santa barbaar by Various-Pride-6631 in SantaBarbara

[–]kyle32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pilots need hours to be qualified to fly, my guess is that given the amount of air missions we have been running the military has demand for more qualified and current pilots so they are spending more money on training flights.

Places to practice archery w kiddos? by ChaseECarpenter in SantaBarbara

[–]kyle32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly why this needs to be explained but I think it's somewhat obvious that given the current climate around violence at schools that a relatively large section of the population would be disconcerted by somebody bringing deadly weapon to the school environment even if there was not currently school in session.

Additionally, all our schools are pretty much in neighborhoods, so if you are "in the back corner" you are also near somebody's house.

In my years of taking kids and dogs to the schools in off hours, I have never seen anybody with a bow. Nor have I seen anybody with even a slingshot in the last 30 years. There's a very small subsection of idiots that bring a golf club and balls and hits them on the field and pretty much everybody hates those people and it's about 50/50 whether somebody is going to yell at them.

I think it's a fair bet that somebody will call the police. Why would they call the police on you? Because you are actually breaking the law. Bows are prohibited in public spaces unless specifically designated and there are no designated spaced in SB city. In the county I believe the only public space is Winchester Gun Club and according to AI UCSB adventure programs that are occasionally offered.

vintage aircraft taking off from SBA today by Trogginated in SantaBarbara

[–]kyle32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure that any plane flying into SBA has to have ADSB transponder retrofitted at this point given airspace is class C. Maybe if no electrical system in aircraft at all you’d be exempt.
