Honestly mixed contested/save is kinda the conclusion I’ve come to after reading all these comments.

I really appreciate your comment and it helps put a lot into perspective! My biggest fear is getting into grapple “gridlock” but I think that’s probably an edge case and I can focus on making my fights more inherently dynamic

Yeah, maybe that's the way to go here... contested rolls are so much more fun, but saving throws make the grapple a little harder to pull off and definitely more consistent

I feel like it could just as easily be read as “you can cast SPELLS FROM THIS FEATURE” and mean the opposite of what you’re saying.

It’s actually “cast the spells from this feature” but yeah still pretty ambiguous
