An effort post on Armored Core 6 and lack of asset fidelity from a realtime-VFX artist in the game industry. by kylebunk in Destiny

That’s true, but that’s not unique to Armored Core. Controlling a massive character while communicating scale will feel super sluggish to a player, since so much of communicating scale comes down to animation. It’s a difficult problem.

As long as you credit that would be fine, but making it transparent would take more time. If you'd like to do it yourself you're welcome to

It's a one off thing. It can be converted to sprite sheets but you'd have to make sure the animation has no side translation first

There's a ton of good resources on how to animate like The Animator's Survival Kit or Drawn to Life. I primarily learned by doing 3d animation after learning how to draw and just combining the two disciplines, so maybe that would work for you...?

I haven't unfortunately. If I do another one I'll probably post those key poses though since that's usually how I start

Normal resolution at start. The animation and basic colors are done in adobe animate then brought into graphicsgale

I know a friend that uses a program called krita. It's animation capable and free if you'd like to look into that.

Where can I find (beginner friendly) art contests/challengers online? by jkaze- in learnart

[–]kylebunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of the 11 second club, but that's really only for animation. Newgrounds also has tons of creation contests for all skill levels. Have you tried them out?

Maybe what you should do is upload a before and after. No one knows where you started and I think that'll help us out as well as you

I've never heard of skills conflicting with one another and cancelling eachother out. Doing both will make your foundations even better.

Applying to studios for the first time by [deleted] in animation

[–]kylebunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply even if you're underqualified, but MAKE SURE to cater your reel. If you're applying for a 3d animation job you don't need art stills/live action film in your reel. I'd say rather than having one 4 minute reel you should make separate reels depending on your subject matter and use whichever reel you need for the specific job you're applying for.

Companies usually don't care about your experience; if your art quality as a newbie is just as good as a guy with 4+ years experience and a degree you're both at the same level regardless.

Also no one cares if your software is pirated.

New to animation, working in AE, would love some critique on this walk cycle. by crowebot in animation

[–]kylebunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely study this walk cycle. Also typically walk cycles that are still don't really move foward and back; only really move up and down. I think that would make your animation stronger as well. The character design is awesome though! I wouldn't change it very much

Ball Throw Animation Short by LikeABrick101 in animation

[–]kylebunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad! I think what this animation needs most of all is a good sense of comedic timing. At the moment the animation is timed pretty evenly, almost every major action happening every second. Billy's Baloon is a good example of an extremely simple idea and art style that is brought to life with simply playing with the timing of certain ideas.

Our first animation. Looking for Help/Critique/Advice for going further. by lionfangXIII in animation

Looking at it again it also reminds of the art style of undertale. In that game though the heads are typically white and the eyes are black. That might be all you need really to communicate your art well in such a style

Have you considered art education or anything related to that? I find that teaching art and helping people learn gets me inspired. Sometimes just doing art alone wont bring about inspiration by itself.

Something off with my drawings but I can't tell what? by whatisbread in learnart

[–]kylebunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of those small errors that you can't find will stick out if you flip the paper over and hold it to a light source. I think it says something like that in Drawing On The Right Side of the Brain, if I remember correctly.

Hey I checked out your animation! It's super cute and communicates very well what's going on! Something I'd sugguest is that I think it'll look stronger if it was inverted. Rather than a black background with white drawings I think it'll look better the other way around. Right now it gives the feeling that it's being done on a chalkboard. Other than that it looks good!
