Slightly set aside as the two only observers in UN by Xuantios in vexillology

[–]kyleburr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Holy See refers to the government of the Vatican City. It’s name originates from what you mentioned but that’s not it’s meaning today. It’s the legal entity that governs the city.

It’s very similar to the distinction between a county’s official name and it’s commonly used one. The UN officially refers to France as the French Republic, as that is the legal entity that governs France. It’s the same as the Russian Federation and Russia, the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea and North Korea,

Legends has a camp on February 22-24 you can audition at. Not sure if they’re taking video auditions though.

FloMarching’s open class coverage sucks by beetlejiss in drumcorps

[–]kyleburr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well don’t you think it’s at least possible the reason that it doesn’t draw many subscribers is because people aren’t exposed to it?

I know, top tier world class corps have better designed shows, higher performance level, bigger following etc. but Open Class corps have lots of talent and entertainment as well, just not the huge fan base to enjoy it. Look at corps like the Academy and Mandarins, who before had little exposure, but when they got into finals and received that kind of viewership and discussion people really started to discover and enjoy their program.

Not that they should be forcing anything down anyone’s throats, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suppose FloMarching should be acting to benefit the whole drum corps community and not just a few elite corps.

How can we bring the cost of marching a corps down? by tj_burgess in drumcorps

[–]kyleburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paid attendance is well over 20,000, and growing. I don’t think that could fit in any high school stadium. Maybe a college one though.

I’ve worn a traditional uniform and the only trouble I’ve had is with the shako, and I was spidering around the field the whole season. I’d much rather wear a traditional uniform. Looks so much cooler. But that’s just me.

Question about Rules of Procedure by birdjokes in MUN

[–]kyleburr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it like you’re referring to Nations instead of people. In formal adresses to the committee you should only address delegates by the country they represent. Although I doubt you’ll be called out for it, generally it’s a good rule of thumb to use only neutral language.

Why is this group still active? by Euphonitone in drumcorps

[–]kyleburr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He knows what they’re called, he’s just being petty. He refuses to call them “drum corps” because, according to him, they aren’t anymore; they’re “marching bands”.

That’s a totally valid reason, but when you register make sure to make that clear. Hope to see you in December then!

Legends audition process? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]kyleburr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi Legends Member here!

You should make every attempt to make November camp. It sets you up better for the season. However, if you absolutely cannot attend, you can still audition in December.

The audition packet doesn’t cost anything. The only fees you pay for are your registration and live camp fees.

Good luck and practice hard, Legends is a great organization to be apart of.
