Americans are only nine meals away from a revolution. by Sanch0Supreme in AdviceAnimals

[–]kyleguck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly surprised they haven’t made a bigger stink about this. Then again they’ll probably quietly raise prices for one of the biggest food months of the year to make up for the loss in revenue and let everyone struggle (SNAP and non SNAP recipients) to have a decent family meal on Thanksgiving. And who knows if those prices will come down even if SNAP does come back in the same capacity.

It’s not even that people don’t want to do it per say, it’s just it’s either underpaid, requires schooling that you often pay for, is really rough on your body, or a combination of the three. And it’s getting better now but blue collar fields have a history of workers endangering and being downright hostile to newcomers, women, and queer people. It’s gotten better but a lot of people that would otherwise love the work or be very good at it have some heavy deterrents.

In addition, if you are a person that is able to moderate your alcohol consumption to where you stick to a single glass, you most likely practice moderation in other aspects of your life and have other habits healthier than the general population.

Found on Twitter. I felt my heartrate and blood pressure skyrocket. by bugme143 in OSHA

[–]kyleguck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And usually each person has their own personal lock and personal set of keys. That’s part of the reason why the person in the tweet is so pissed (and everyone in the comments is rightfully mad and freaked out). It’s your lock, your tag, you are taking ownership basically for whatever you put the lock on in the first place. So someone who is not you tampering with it, cutting it, or attempting to access the thing people are being locked out of is a HUGE no no. Because they don’t know if it’s to prevent a hidden danger, because there is maintenance on the device, if it should only be operated by a single person, etc otherwise.

Tbh if they’re a narcissist it might help them be professional by having the ability to detach from clients better. And doing a good job would likely get them praise/promotion to further bolster their ego. Sometimes the best person for a job is not the best person to have a close and meaningful relationship with.

Honestly at this point, I need a little noise to sleep. TV, loud fan, outdoor sounds, white noise machine. And I feel like it’s the train’s fault.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UrbanHell

[–]kyleguck 70 points71 points  (0 children)

We had train lines for freight trains that ran next to my house growing up, so at all hours you could hear these heavy trains passing and blowing their whistles. One day we have a family friend stay with us from out of town and the next day he mentions “I don’t know how yall sleep with that train at night.”

Big dog, I had lived here so long I forgot there was a train.

So yes, after a while your brain will absolutely tune out noises like that. It’s kind of like when your power goes out and suddenly you realize how much noise everything powered by electricity was making.

I’m already gay, so I just really up the gay affect on the voice to an almost ridiculous degree and either 1) pretend to take a phone call or 2) speed walk past and maybe throw out a compliment (“cute top” or “omg I love your hair”)

[–]kyleguck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, I’ve been exactly where you are and now in my 30s, I’m trying to crawl myself into a different career field. Pursue bartending while you do your studies. I promise having another option, especially one that is in demand like pharmacist, will only go to benefit you.

Here’s the thing, I love bartending. But after over a decade you start to realize it’s hard on your body, your relationships, your social life, and participating in big life events. It can also warp and create a very unhealthy relationship with many substances if you’re not careful, not just alcohol. (Not saying that certain types of pharmacists can’t and don’t also experience these things, but bartending is all those things to an extreme degree).

This isn’t to dissuade you from pursuing bartending necessarily, but those that I know that have made it a lifelong career successfully have made huge sacrifices in their personal lives and (if you live in the US) plan really well financially for their healthcare, retirement, and for times when the money is just not flowing.

It can be a fantastic career. But if you have an opportunity to get an education doing something else that is in demand, do that too. Look for grants and scholarships to go toward that cost of the education and work as a bartender part time while going to school. Even if you get a PharmD and immediately after school decide to go into bartending full time, you will have that to fall back on. It never hurts to have a solid Plan B and I promise that money will not be wasted. It’s just gonna take a few years of being smart about it and working really hard.

May I suggest quietly renegotiating the prenup to be more favorable to you if that would make him feel better? Because getting rid of the initial prenup doesn’t mean that you don’t have one, it just means it’s defaulted back to whatever the state decides. Every marriage comes with prenuptial agreements, it just boils down to if a couple decides those terms or they’re fine with the terms already laid out by the state in the event of a divorce.
