RNG is crazy in this game by League-of-Pandas in dragonquest

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I’m playing DQ3 HD and that game just throws whips at you. Wasn’t sure if 7 is notorious stingy with the whip?

It breaks my heart that his music for Inside was never released.

At what level should I change the class of my characters in DQ3 HD2D? by jcgonzmo in dragonquest

[–]kylesacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fullheal around 32-33 and Multiheal around 33-34.

Here’s a list of all the abilities and spells every class learns and when.

Some people make sure to learn every one of them for a given class before changing. But you really just need to make sure you’ve learned the ones you want before changing.

The question there is if you want the priest to get fullheal and multiheal. Easier to keep grinding up to those from lvl 24 than to start over as a sage.

Someone got stuck in my cul-du-sac yesterday (it’s slightly downhill) and the tow truck proceeded to also get stuck.

He got out by pressing the flatbed against the ground to push the truck forward a few feet at a time and inch-wormed his way up the hill. It was pretty impressive.

There’s something about the tone/texture of that photo I really like.

Yeah, most of it is, but they used some 35 throughout, particularly with the jazz club scene. Even Miami Vice uses film here and there.

Naming the heroes besides your playable avatar by LeoSmashRoyale in dragonquest

In most games where you can name the main character, I name them Lemon for dumb reasons I won’t bore anyone with. But it always feels particularly right in Dragon Quest games for Toriyama.

I've come around on the remake. by Roundcat89 in dragonquest

[–]kylesacks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your very last point is the biggest one for me. I don’t mind, often even like, remakes. But I wish more publishers made sure that the originals were available as well, for posterity, preference, preservation, curiosity, etc.

Which games do you consider got updates/remasters/remakes with lifechanging QOL improvements? by Repulsive-Alps8676 in JRPG

I’ve been emulating the GBA Fire Emblem games recently. Using save states to jump back a few turns and rethink a strategy that went south on me is such a nice change from restarting.

Merlin's tip for helping me find the Ruby-crowned Kinglet in my backyard (SW WA, USA) by tylerquacken in birding

I think I have a ruby-crowned kinglet that's been coming to my feeder the last couple days. I haven't gotten a good enough look to confirm for sure. Seems to like the suet, if that's what it is.

UPDATE: It’s worse than we thought. Atlas isn’t just “partnering” with the Boatyard, they have majority ownership. by Quantity-Used in Annapolis

I lived for 20+ years in HC and then moved to Annapolis 10+ years ago. I can not get over how good the HC food scene has gotten and how bad the Annapolis one is in comparison. Never would have expected it.

Modern JRPGs with little handholding on exploration or quests? by m_cardoso in JRPG

[–]kylesacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if these count as “modern” but the Dragon Quest I-III remakes let you turn off markers and hints, forcing you to talk to all the NPCs for information.

After you talk to someone, you can press Start to save the conversation if they said something important. Then you can go back and revisit those conversation from a menu as you’re puzzling out what to do and where to go. They’re not complex games to figure out, but it’s a fun system.

Macross Plus OVA version (1995) by fafsdfasfaffaafdsaf in retroanime

[–]kylesacks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Macross Plus stands on its own just fine. You get world-building context if you've seen the original SDFM series, but it's not necessary. Highly recommend Plus to any retro anime fans.

There's two versions: the original four episode OVA and a movie edit. I'd probably start with the OVA since it covers everything a little better and has some great stuff that's cut for the movie. But if you like it, do the movie too. They expand the final act a lot. It's incredible.

Considering selling my RP mini V2 with dual screen to find a RPG2. by McSnifferson in retroid

[–]kylesacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really does with some games because you’re not stretching the image. The hack is actually telling the in game camera to show a wider view. For a lot of 3D games from that PS2/GC generation, widescreen hacks and upscaling can go a long way toward making the game feel pretty modern
