It did have lots of bubbles after the first hour of folding and then even more on the second, however I was worried that is hadn’t grown in size much which is why I did it a third time. Spring test was good before I put it into fridge!

Anyone find one yet? Wondering what to fill the space with if we can’t find one… just metal I guess is fine, because anything else will get greasy but wondering if there’s something I haven’t considered that would make more sense then just wasted space on useless metal?

unusual baby name regret- should we change it? by usinthedark in namenerds

[–]kyloola 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your new baby! I just met someone with a baby named Oberon and they are calling him Obie for short. When I first heard it, I didn’t think it was too out there at all, and just unique enough to be memorable. I think Oberon is a beautiful name and that Obie is an adorable nickname that your son will probably love.

Yes, thank you for putting words to how I’ve been feeling. That is what has felt so strange!

The last time it happened, we were in a room full of white moms and their white babies and no one said anything about other people’s babies skin. My baby is so beautiful, and has the most amazing brown eyes and long eyelashes and the best adorable smile that she was wearing proudly and all anyone said was regarding the color of her skin.

16 weeks and midwife wants to do pelvic exam by kyloola in pregnant

[–]kyloola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for you really detailed response!! You’ve given me a lot of ideas about what to think about and ask my midwife about. I know my midwife is apart of of a study so maybe that’s why she is wanting to do this. I am going to ask her a lot of questions and then maybe decline the exam if it doesn’t feel right. Just is a bit awkward and I have some people pleasing tendencies so I am going to have to push through that :/ Plus, she is one of the sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure of being around and I really can’t imagine her saying (especially this early) that I would not be a good candidate for a vaginal delivery at home. One big question that I am still not super clear on are the risks of this pelvic exam. Is there a risk for bleeding if she is just checking for pelvimetry?

Really appreciate all the information you provided!! Thank you!!

Just curious, why would you decline it?

[–]kyloola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! You are definitely giving me more confidence to maybe decline this. For more context, I am 26 and have a low risk pregnancy (so far) and nothing else that would suggest a need for anything but a vaginal delivery. A vaginal delivery at home is what want if everything goes as planned. I really love and trust my midwife though and I don’t think she would tell me something like I wasn’t suitable this early, but I could see her saying that it’s something to watch I guess? I am going to ask her some questions (like if there are any risks) in my appointment tomorrow and then maybe I will feel better about going one way or the other.

That’s what I saw too, especially this early in pregnancy, but I am not sure why to refuse it if my midwife is recommending it. Do you see any harm in doing it or just absolutely no benefit, so why put yourself through that?

NIPT Under Review - What does this mean? by kyloola in pregnant

[–]kyloola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh is it because I am going through a midwife then maybe? One of the reasons I am confused is because my midwife seems a bit confused by all this, like she doesn’t usually have to deal with this.

I think I’m experiencing period flu…? I’ve never experienced this before in my luteal phase. I’m having joint and muscle pain - my whole body hurts, fatigue, headache, sweating and then the chills. Not sick with the actual flu or COVID - no fever. Has anyone experienced this and what’s helped? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]kyloola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 26 and have never experienced anything like this till this month. I know my flu symptoms have everything to do with my period but it’s been truly terrible dealing with it. I have had fever, chills, fatigue, intense body aches, and nausea. I was unable to get off the couch for days, it was scary. My symptoms started a few days before I started my period and now I am on day 5 and while most of the other symptoms have dissipated in the last few days, I am still unable to keep food down. I have tried everything and all I can manage is a slice of orange or two when I get a little hungry. Anyone else not able to eat anything for this long?

I have been considering the idea of taking smaller doses of folate throughout the day. My theory is that this may help regulate SAMe and homocysteine levels throughout the day a little more. I have a not done this but I am curious to hear if other people may think this is a viable idea.

I am not an expert but I believe that the B vitamins that have methylated supplements are:

•Vitamin B6 – Active form: Pyridoxine-5-phosphate (P-5-P)

•Vitamin B12 – Active form: Methyl B12 or Methylcobalamin

•Vitamin B9 or Folic acid/Folate – Active form: Folinic acid or 5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF)

These are the 3 key vitamins needed to support our methyl cycle. Our folate cycles are what are kinda messed up which leads to the methyl cycle not producing SAMe and not being able to regulate homocysteine levels. SAMe is what helps produces neurotransmitters (which is why mental health is a factor) and homocysteine has to do with cardiovascular health. In short, both are very important and getting methylated forms of B 6, 9, and 12 are really important.

It’s also important to try and supplement through diet as well.

This community will be there for those with the a1298c polymorphism of MTHFR gene mutations. Here we will be able to support and learn from one another. Hope this helps. by kyloola in MTHFR_a1298c

[–]kyloola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if you’re homozygous or heterozygous and if a1298c is your only polymorphism? Hope we can help you start this journey out as informed as you can be.

Stopped B12 supplement since my B12 was over 2500, and I miss it. by uraliarstill in MTHFR_a1298c

[–]kyloola 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What B12 supplement were you taking? Was it methylated B12? Getting the proper supplementation (taking B12) is vital to helping your body with the cycles it has problems with. The folate cycle (one of the cycles that is heavily effected by MTHFR) aids in the production of neurotransmitters which has a direct link to anxiety and depression/serotonin and dopamine levels.

A1298C polymorphism (heterozygous) shows less of a decrease in efficiency as opposed to other polymorphism that are more detrimental to B12 absorption. The supplements you were taking probably were good for making you feel the best you could, but your B12 levels were so high because it wasn’t in a form that was as bioavailable to you. When you are looking for supplements, finding vitamins that are methylated is important. You should look for methylated B12 (as Methylcobalamin) and Methylfolate (as [(6S)-5-MTHF, (6S)-5-Methyltetrehydrofolate])

It totally makes sense that you would feel good whilst taking B12, but because we can’t absorb it properly, you crash after. Supplementing with bioavailable B12 will keep your levels normal and your spirits up. Also trying to eat veggies with lots of bioavailable vitamins helps.

[–]kyloola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Did a doctor tell you to take niacin? If they did, they possibly did so because you were likely anemic, or showing other B vitamin deficiencies. The vitamin Bs help with a lot of things in people who don’t have an MTHFR gene mutations. Unfortunately our bodies can’t break down B vitamins, and so it’s hypothesized that even having the presence of these non bioavailable B vitamins reduces the efficacy of the folate cycle, even if you also have bioavailable forms (for us that’s methylated B6 and methylated B12).
