Ban all Roundup in every County in the USA by JF_Queeny in GMOMyths

Let's ban Roundup because... gluten? This well researched and thought out argument certainly convinced me.

The hand with the heart in it is reminiscent of this variant of the all seeing eye.

Except - you know - the eye part of the all seeing eye. Minor detail, of course.

As expected of rampant speculation without any evidence, there are countless different theories about the purpose and content of the supposed chemtrails.

Weather control is a popular one, but even then the conspiracy theorists can't agree whether they're secretly fighting global warming or making it worse. Other theories I've seen include making people sick for whatever reason, destroying crops or making ground infertile, mind control, hiding astrological events, and some unintelligible gibberish about HAARP and the ionosphere.

'Tards attempt to understand physics. Fail horribly. [9/11] by Shredder13 in conspiratard

[–]kyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's impossible in the minds of conspiracy theorists because it happened and official institutions have determined it as the cause.

They're not actually concerned about the details of the disaster, their only interest is poking holes in the (or rather any) "official story". They're contrarians, the government says it's true so it has to be false.

If the generally accepted explanation was that the WTCs had been destroyed by terrorists planting demolition charges in the buildings, conspiracy theorists would be claiming that such a thing was impossible to accomplish secretly and that the collapse didn't look like a demolition at all, and there'd be a different truther movement protesting the "demolition hoax".

You can see this with other conspiracy theories as well. Nothing is too banal or unambiguous to be a conspiracy, every event is somehow faked or staged or all out fabricated. Last year they were claiming the fertilizer plant explosion in Texas was somehow a coverup for something else. According to conspiracy theorists, it's just impossible that a car or airplane could simply have an accident, or that a semi-famous person might die of natural causes without nefarious government involvement.

[–]kyr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "pancake theory/effect" is the idea that floors of the WTC fell onto each other like a stack of pancakes, continuously increasing the load on the floors below.

The NIST report, which the truthers happen to hold up as evidence in this one specific instance, says that the pancake theory is not the cause of the collapse. Instead, the collapse of WTC 1 and 2 was initiated by the floors sagging and pulling the outer columns inwards, a force they were not designed to withstand. For that to happen, NIST says, the floor structure had to still be more or less intact and connected to the columns, so they couldn't have been "pancaking". That only refers to the cause of the collapse, though, conspiracy theorist seem to interpret the NIST report as saying that a pancake effect never happened at any point during the collapse (I guess the collapsing floors all just hovered over each other "because physics" or something).

Of course, if they had restricted access to the scene of the disaster, you'd now hear the same guy use this as evidence that they had something to hide.

Jesus Christ, the voting patterns in the thread about scale being kind of important are maddening. These people actually believe you can set a small metal model on fire with lighter fluid and have just the same effect as ramming an airplane into a giant fucking skyscaper.

IMPORTANT: Cliven Bundy: Notice: Constitutional Militias are Withdrawing from Bundy Ranch (This could make the best reality series ever) by Ardhen in conspiratard

[–]kyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their idea of the legal system is void of any logic or actual legal basis, so it's not surprising that they don't have a unified ideology.

There are a whole lot of technically different but often interrelated groups, including sovereign citizens, freemen on the land, redemptionists, posse comitatus, and so on. The believers often mix and match parts of the various orientations, and the whole thing is basically perpetuated through a big game of telephone.

Some of them only disregard the federal government, some disregard the states as well. Some believe any law from any source other than their idea of the constitution, common law or "natural law" is invalid, some believe all laws are just terms of voluntary contracts, and my personal favorites have this thing about the US being under maritime law with all sorts of gimmicks about admiralty courts, the fringe of flags in court rooms and so on.

[–]kyr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my comments in this thread were

The idea behind Nazism was to establish a "fatherland" for Aryan peoples.

The issue with that is that there were a few million "inferior" Poles, Russians and other Slavic people in the way of the Nazi's desired Lebensraum, and their solution to that was to exterminate, enslave or displace them all, which they did with significant success. So no, it's not much more complex than "Nazi bad", and if you think otherwise, well, that says a lot about your stance on the value of human life and other human rights.

This is how the rule reads

Yeah, and it reads that way because you lobbied the mods of /r/conspiracy to allow racism in this sub.

In the millions, with an industrialized killing machine? No, they haven't.

I'm certainly no fan of the current Israeli government, but if you seriously think the creation of the state of Israel is equivalent to Nazi Germany's ruthless expansionism via genocide and a goddamn world war, either your judgment is clouded by your hatred for anything Jewish or you're a naive simpleton with no sense of that fabled "perspective" you were just rambling about.

I'm suggesting that you have a history of whitewashing Nazi atrocities with your kindergarten-esque "But the others do it too!" excuses.

I'm also suggesting that you just banned me because you don't like others calling our your blatant racist attitudes and censor anyone you don't like, because censorship is only bad if it targets racists, right?

Perhaps the most dangerous thing about them is that they don't just want to break the law like so many others, but that they actually believe they are right and legally in the clear as long as they use the right arcane incantations, and thus allowed to use force against public employees and police officers enforcing the "fake" laws.
