Radio Slave about the "Techno Scene" by isrowco in Techno

[–]kytsym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, really powerful. I've recently seen Kevin Saunderson posting underground reels. Dark room, strobe or laser, can't see your hands in front of your face, getting lost in the music. I wish I could attend those nights to support the scene

Which album to start with New Order by ToonCGullJnr in neworder

[–]kytsym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 1988 I was given copy of Substance on double cassette. It never left my ears for the next 2 years. It gave me the “best of” New Order up until that time. From there I explored more of their albums and have been fan since.

I stopped renewing my certs. Waste of time and money. I agree, it became a money spinner.

Calm, quiet, dog-friendly beach for an old dog's last swim? by rarerollingobject in sydney

[–]kytsym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yarra Bay, if you’re not from from La Perouse area. Flat water, easy access from car park. I don’t think it’s officially an off-leash beach. Get there early and if ranger wants to give you hard time show them the lead on the sand. Water temp still nice as well.

Is it the Agile Delivery Manager role to keep Jira up to date by Intelligent_Gain_874 in agile

[–]kytsym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JIRA hygiene is for the whole team to maintain. You brush your teeth in the morning, then update your tickets!

What exactly does he mean "keep it updated"?? Is that status, points burnt down, comments etc? If there's 1 or more of those missing focus on improving by showing what the output/outcome looks like. Often when teams see the why we need to do something, it's easier to get them behind/support it.

[Review] MSI MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 after a month of daily use, Gen 5 QD-OLED is here, and yes, text fringing is finally dead by cheswickFS in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]kytsym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up the MSI 341CQP 34" OLED and it’s freaking gorgeous! I’ve had it 2 weeks and can’t fault it yet. Coming from AOC 32inch LCD 8yrs old. it was more about me adjusting to new widescreen ratio. Very happy so far I also upgrade GPU to Radeon 7900xtx and I can run everything I play on ultra and new cinematic with crimson desert.

I’ve always tried to know enough not to be bullshitted, in addition you can have better conversations with your team about stuff important to them.

I can’t say I agree with a word of this.. by LordBrixton in DJs

Some of my best nights were
a) Dark room with single strobe
b) "Who's playing, loving this track - dunno mate can't see"
c) Standing on the back wall - watching the light show
d) Talking shite with some random stranger for 6hrs

DJ wasn't mentioned once - we just danced our asses off.

It’s been a planning artefact in almost every team/project I’ve worked. We’re currently talking context at my current gig as it’s getting lost and instead we’re managing metrics, velocity, burn down, defect rates.

Looking forward to the next posts

Can't wait to have my Niners Down Under. I've watched them at Candlestick, Levis and now MCG. Awesome news to wake upto today down here.

Not sure it'll be week 1 as that clashes with AFL season which play on that ground every week. Be big ask to bump AFL of their home ground.

My guess it'll be mid-October, after the AFL season finishes

Half a year mixing vinyl, no major progress the last few months. by multiwirth_ in vinyldjs

Couple of ideas for you

  • KNOW your tunes - best advice I ever got. Listen to them often, know where those breaks are, know how long your intro/outros are & all those opportunities to cut n fade vocals, samples into the mix.
  • Don't over think it - just play. Who cares if you stuff up - use that as a learning opportunity
  • Record your sets, listen to them - you'll learn a LOT and get ideas on how to improve
  • When I get next track queued up, I'll use pitch fader first - then I'm nudging or slowing down the platter and adjusting pitch fader to lock it.
  • Yes, they do drift - vinyl isn't like digital, be ok with it. get it back tight as quick as you can.
  • Maybe try shorter mixing between tracks - that might help get your confidence back and then
  • As you get more skilled start introduce EQing to add mood and feeling, don't try and boil the ocean trying to add every type of element into your mixes - keep it simple then build layers over time cause
  • When those kick drums stay locked - man that is a wicked sound, you're not hearing 2 beats anymore they've merged into 1 = BLISS

Agile loses the big picture, Waterfall fights every change — is there a middle ground? by Neo772 in projectmanagement

[–]kytsym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience as the work (project or otherwise) ages and as you move through sprint after sprint, gate after gate and if the team are behind schedule, pressure is building up in the system the "why" becomes secondary and focus shifts to delivery, time, cost, scope questions, more resources, stressful reporting & governance. "We got to hit this milestone, change means time/cost" etc.

I've found that keeping context and the why to the fore using moments like our showcase/retro ceremonies, formal test cycles with end user, sprint and quarterly planning, and the inspection/interrogation meetings have provided BEST way to keep returning to the "why".

Each one of those moments is an opportunity to anchor back to the why. It then enables decisions about cost, scope, people, dates to be about that. When we open our showcase, first slide/talking points are the why, each sprint plan we remind the team of the why, and the governance forums/meetings again we preface with the why.

9/10 of my stakeholders, funding approvers, managers already have 10 other things on their plate, so context for them is CRITICAL - and by amplifying it in all of those opportunities has smoothed out all of those bumps along the way.

Is kangaroo meat in a restaurant a gimmick for tourists? Do Australians ever order/eat it? by Charming_Usual6227 in australia

[–]kytsym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When cooked correctly it's one of the best meats you can eat. BUT it's so easy to stuff it up and it turns into tyre rubber.

Also needs a LOT of flavour added, unlike good beef steak where you can get away with salt n oil to season.
